We sponsor paddle boarding trips for teen girls to help them relearn how to trust themselves, love their bodies and paddle their own journey. We also offer women's leadership retreats on paddle boards, building confidence and community for women in business and technology. These days, teen girls are pressured by image more than ever. Attention is given to looks and likes, rather than interests and skills. Standing up and speaking out is labeled unattractive and unfeminine. The message to ‘be nice’, ‘get likes' and 'stay quiet' is repeated over and over. These messages are stealing the fire from our girls, and from us. When we’re trying to be perfect, we’re afraid to take risks that when we’re comfortable in our skin, we stand up for what we believe in. And it’s not just affecting teen girls...
These same messages follow us into our work and hold us back from speaking up in meetings, from sharing our ideas, following passions and taking on leadership roles. More than ever, women need to be reminded of their power, their voice and the importance of what they have to say. Confidence breeds leadership. This is where the idea for Girls on Boards evolved. The Girls On Boards mission is to take groups of teens girls, tired of the pressures that are stopping them from speaking their truths and sharing their gifts, and get them out on paddle boards. We’re a non-profit company empowering girls to have confidence in their bodies and in their work. Our paddle boarding retreats are focused on helping girls speak up, stand up and to not let social limits and pressures stop them from sharing their truths and leading the way. And we also run leadership retreats for women in business, these retreats sponsor our empowerment retreats for teen girls. Why paddle boarding? 2 reasons - when you step on your board, you need to find your balance and trust your core. Exactly the same way you need to step into leadership and life. It’s a powerful metaphor to teach us about paddling your own journey, finding our balance, trusting our core and the magical feeling of walking on water!
