No Helm Chapel this Friday!

We’re switching things up this week! Instead of our usual Friday chapel, you’ll find us down on the Halifax waterfront at our pop-up market.

Come say hello, check out some of the things the guys at The Helm and the ladies at Hope House have been making, and learn a little more about our recovery programs.

We’re down on the Halifax waterfront this week!

From Tuesday to Monday we’ll be set up in one of the Sea Cans with stuff made through The Helm and Hope House, our men’s and women’s recovery homes.

If you’re downtown, come by, say hi, check out what we’ve got and support the work happening in both homes.

We’ll get some pictures and video tomorrow once we’re actually set up.

Also — no Helm Chapel this Friday. We’ll be at the market.

What a privilege to celebrate Norm and Jason today.

These two hadn’t crossed paths in 12 years — until God brought them both here to The Helm.

And now, together, they’re celebrating one month in recovery.

Pretty amazing how God brings people back across each other’s path at just the right time.

Proud of you boys. One month down. 🙏❤️

Life Skills this morning — accountability and self-discipline.

Then out of the classroom and into the hands-on stuff. Sanding, painting, staining, building.

A big part of recovery is learning to show up, do the work, and stick with something.

That was today at The Helm. 🔨⚓️

All of the patio stone is now accounted for!

🧱 PATIO BRICKS FOR SALE — DIRT CHEAP! 🧱

We’ve got a whole pile of patio stones and bricks here at The Helm that need to move.

We’re setting up this area for our new wood chipper, and instead of these bricks sitting around taking up space, we’d love to see somebody put them to good use.

There are different sizes, styles and colours, and they can look pretty sharp mixed together. The last photo is the patio we built in front of our storehouse using a mix of these stones — proof that mismatched can actually look really good.

We’re thinking around $1 a brick — or, if you’re feeling generous, you’re welcome to make us a big fat donation 😄 Every dollar supports the work happening here.

Recovery isn’t only about what we stop doing. It’s about learning how to live — how to work, forgive, serve, pray, take responsibility, and walk with other people.

And underneath all of it is the promise of Jesus:

This coming Friday, please join us for Chapel at The Helm at 10:30 a.m. as we celebrate and honour our founders, Kevin and Dawn Bralovich.

Kevin will be bringing the Word for the last time in a while as he and Dawn prepare to move to the other side of the country.

We’d love to fill the room, worship together, and give them a proper send-off with lots of love and gratitude for everything they’ve poured into The Helm over the years.

Saturday is usually a free day for the residents at The Helm.

No classes. No work program. Just their own time.

This past Saturday, they had the option to join a local church and help paint a community centre. Nobody had to go.

The guys talked it over and, as a crew, decided they wanted to spend part of their Saturday helping out.

So they showed up, grabbed some paint brushes, and got to work.

It was great to see the guys choose service on their own time—not because it was on the schedule, but because they wanted to be there.

Proud of this crew and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside our community.
