The Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council is the central labour body for the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). It is composed of Local Unions, which elect delegates to attend monthly general meetings at which decisions of the Labour Council are made. The Labour Council delegates elect an Executive Committee, including "table officer" positions such as President, Vice-President, Treasurer

and Secretary, which guide the work of the Labour Council on a day-to-day basis between monthly meetings. Meetings:
The Labour Council meets monthly, beginning at 7:00pm, on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings begin at 7:00pm and are held in the 2nd Floor Boardroom at the Labour Temple (3700 Kempt Road, Halifax)

Your lead table bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement. At this point, all picket lines will stand down, and members will return to work as early as Monday morning. If the tentative agreement is not ratified, the strike will resume. See the full update below:

As the strike enters its eighth week, the Canadian Press reports that residents of long-term care facilities and their families want the workers taking care of them and their loved ones to be compensated fairly, and urge the government to bring a new contract forward.

The government’s current proposal would bring the lowest-paid workers up to $23.57 an hour, which is more than $4 below the provincial living wage of $27.60.

Long-term care workers deserve to be compensated fairly for the important work that they do.
