Ask a skilled volunteer what surprised them and it is almost never the travel.

It is that you spend more time on public speaking than on strategy, because that is what people ask for. It is that the most useful thing you know might turn out to be Google Sheets. It is finding out the founders in the room already know how to pitch, and what they actually want is how to stand out.

And it is that the session you planned changes once you are in it, because you are working with the people in front of you rather than delivering a deck.

At Venture2Impact, skilled professionals travel to work in person with local entrepreneurs and students. The skills are the ones you already use at work. The room is nothing like it.

An hour of volunteering is valuable. An hour of skilled volunteering is worth about six times more.

Standard volunteer time is valued at around $35 an hour. The specialized work of a professional, the finance expertise, the marketing strategy, the product thinking, is valued at about $220. That gap is the whole idea behind what we do: we send people whose skills are hard to buy to the places that need them most.

A few weeks of the right expertise can change what a small business is able to do next.

In San José, Costa Rica, we ran a three-week program working alongside local entrepreneurs. Mentorship was the heart of it.

Forty-one skilled professionals sat down with those entrepreneurs for around 160 one-to-one sessions. That’s roughly 240 hours of someone experienced giving their full attention to someone else’s business, one conversation at a time. Across the whole program, the expertise those professionals gave was worth more than 600,000 dollars, all of it at no cost to the people who received it.

The part that stays with us is smaller and harder to count: an entrepreneur who closed the week with a plan that finally felt doable.

She grew up between Marrakech and Montreal, and her whole career has lived where two things meet: running things well, and helping people grow. At Venture 2 Impact, those come together. She designs programs that put real business skills in the hands of women and communities.

Meet Mikaela, our new Program Coordinator. 🎉

She was born in the Philippines, trained in Development Studies, and shaped by two NGOs and a stretch in corporate learning and development. Those are two different worlds, but they led her to one conclusion: the people at the center are what matters.

This is what a year looks like.

We got everyone who made it happen into one room and shared what this community built across three countries. 8,260 hours of skilled work. 257 people supported on the ground. $1.82M in professional expertise, given for free.

The numbers are honestly the easy part. What’s harder to fit on a slide is what they add up to: founders who left with a roadmap, students who left with confidence, local teams now running systems on their own.

This was you. Every hour, every session, every problem someone stayed up late to solve. Thank you.

Last week our community came together to look back on the year — and this one’s for our Morocco crew. 🇲🇦

For a week, they worked with 133 students and young founders — running workshops, joining panels, and helping them find a clearer path toward their careers and ventures. They walked in unsure and left believing in where they’re headed.
