It’s deeply disappointing—and sadly ironic—that the government’s Restorative Initiatives Unit, which is tasked with leading this province’s restorative justice work, failed to apply the very principles it promotes. Values like relationship-building, collaboration, responsiveness, and flexibility were notably absent in their dealings with our organization. Despite our repeated efforts to engage in open dialogue and address barriers to delivering the program in HRM, we had been met with silence up until this service agreement termination.
