Women Unlimited We help women in Nova Scotia, Canada to explore and pursue careers in trades and technology.

Women Unlimited began as a non-profit in 2006 and formally joined the Nova Scotia Community College learning community in September 2021. Women Unlimited NSCC offers its Career Exploration Program (CEP) at three NSCC campuses, including Akerley in Dartmouth, Marconi in Cape Breton, and Institute of Technology (IT) in Halifax.

A very special thanks to the Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council for supporting our 20th Anniversary Celebration next month in Halifax.
We're delighted to have Rochelle Hatcher, the council's regional director, as host and panel moderator for our breakfast event on Friday, November 6th at the Steele Wheels Motor Museum.
The sector council is a non-profit organization that works with trades organizations, industry, government and job seekers in the industrial, commercial, and institutional construction sector.
Rochelle and the council team play a key role in career exploration, connecting Women Unlimited grads to training and employment opportunities in the sector, and supporting and promoting the Women Unlimited program. This special relationship has created other industry connections, some of which have joined as sponsors for this event.

🎉Celebrating 20 years of Sisterhood!🎉
Meet Faye Nightingale, a member of the Women Unlimited Class of 2024 in Cape Breton.
Faye trained and worked in office administration and a variety of jobs before making her way to Women Unlimited, a free trades and technology career exploration program for women at NSCC campuses in Sydney, Dartmouth, and Halifax.
Everything changed for Faye when she met program staff Bernadette Johnson and Noreen MacKinnon.
"From the very first interview until this present day, they’ve been understanding, supportive, and validating," she says.
"Without Women Unlimited and all the connections and relationships I’ve built, I wouldn’t be standing where I am today."
Through Women Unlimited, Faye tried hands-on trades at NSCC, met industry representatives and union workers, visited building sites and union halls. She soon set her sights on the Introduction to Pipe Trades Program, an enhanced direct-entry trades training program offered by the Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council and UA Local 56 in Dartmouth, NS, after completing Women Unlimited.
This training launched her career in skilled trades.
Now a second-year Apprentice Sprinkler Fitter, Faye is a strong ambassador for careers in construction and women in trades, returning to the classroom to inspire new WU sisters on their journey.
Earlier today, she spoke about her journey and the supportive skilled trades community at the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency's 2026 Annual Industry Meeting & Awards Breakfast in Halifax. The NSAA also shared a Discover the Trades video featuring Faye working as a Sprinkler Fitter.
"Being a part of Women Unlimited has been an honour," says Faye. "I’ve taken it very seriously, with lots of laughs to go with it. I am so thankful to be a part of WU."

We're grateful to Sheet Metal Workers & Roofers - SMART Canada for joining us as sponsors for our 20th Anniversary Celebration next month in Halifax.
The union, which represents more than 17,000 skilled tradespeople working in sheet metal, roofing and siding across Canada, supports the development of Women Unlimited sisters and women in trades through hands-on activities during our free career exploration program. The union, in partnership with the Scotia Construction Sector Council, provides enhanced direct-entry training and career opportunities to Women Unlimited graduates and others across Nova Scotia.
So far this year, five Women Unlimited program grads and a woman in the WU network successfully completed this training in Sydney and Dartmouth.
Together, we're breaking down barriers and building communities.

🎉Celebrating 20 years of Sisterhood!🎉
Meet Christina Cann, a graduate of Women Unlimited's Class of 2014 at NSCC Akerley Campus in Dartmouth, NS.
She worked in call centres and retail for about 20 years before finding Women Unlimited, the free trades and technology career exploration program for women at NSCC campuses in Sydney, Halifax, and Dartmouth.
Through Women Unlimited, Christina says she overcame her shyness and felt her confidence grow as she tried the trades and tech activities, met faculty and industry, and got out of her comfort zone in the supportive and empowering community that is WU.
After successfully completing the program, she enrolled in the Database Administration program at IT Campus in Halifax. She embraced every opportunity to learn, network, and find mentors, and graduated with honours in June 2016, the same month she was hired by IBM Canada Limited.
"I have been employed with IBM for over 10 years and, I kid you not, I thank Women Unlimited every day for this incredible outcome," Christina says.
"Women Unlimited is a life-changing program."
She's proud to be able to have a successful career in IT here in Nova Scotia and be able to contribute to the economy, earning far more today than she could've imagined in call centre and retail work.
"I am honoured to be part of such a great organization promoting women's strength and potential," Christina says. "Congratulations on 20 years of empowering great women!"
