🎉We are proud to celebrate with Women Unlimited sister and advocate, Ann Brown, who received her honorary diploma from NSCC at convocation this week in HRM.🎉
🎓A graduate of the former Marine & Industrial Rigging program at NSCC IT Campus in Halifax, Ann has worked with Nova Scotia Power for 17 years, first as a rigger and later as an industrial electrician working at power plants and substations.🦺
She founded and continues to serve on WEARE+, an employee resource group supporting women in trades at NSP, and was co-chair of the company's Black employee resource group for three years.
This mother of eight is a strong role model for Black women in trades and has returned time and time again to Women Unlimited as a panellist and mentor to talk trades and serve as an example of overcoming barriers to achieve success.
In May 2023, Ann represented Women Unlimited and Nova Scotia Power as they announced funding to support the Doreen Parsons Legacy Award. The bursary supports Women Unlimited program graduates pursuing trades or technology training at NSCC.
"Women Unlimited opened doors for me I could not have imagined,” Ann said at the time.
The program’s facilitators and team members built her up to take on any challenge and supported her throughout her journey.
“I felt like I mattered," Ann said. "I felt like I was a boss."
💪🏿💪🏿We hope you feel like a boss with that honorary diploma in your hands, Ann! 💪🏿💪🏿
Congratulations on your many accomplishments and for continuing to open doors for diverse women in trades.
Women Unlimited was represented at the ceremony by Program Director Vivian Dixon, Yvette Jarvis, the Program Coordinator from IT Campus, and Terrah Keener, Dean of the School of Access, Business, Creative Industries and Education.

✨Congratulations to Women Unlimited sister Peyton Green who graduated yesterday with a certificate in Power and Utility Line Work from NSCC Cumberland Campus.🎓
Originally from Lunenburg, Peyton is a graduate of the Women Unlimited Class of 2025 at NSCC Akerley Campus in Dartmouth where she explored careers in trades and technology and found her passion for line work.
She spent the summer after Women Unlimited working as a deckhand on the Bluenose II schooner, and moved to Springhill, NS to start her trades training in September.
After a fantastic year, she graduated with honours and next week, she starts her new job. 🎉
Women Unlimited team members Nikki Farmer and Patricia Brooks Arenburg attended Wednesday's event in Springhill to celebrate Peyton as she received her certificate.
Many thanks to our NSCC Cumberland Campus colleagues for inviting us to join you in this heartwarming community celebration.
To the NSCC grads, especially women in trades and tech programs, receiving their hard-earned credentials at NSCC convocations across the province this week and next, we wish you much success in your future endeavours.

|| CHELSEY - 2025 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT ||

Chelsey is a former flight attendant and a proud participant and alumna of the Women Unlimited program at Nova Scotia Community College. She is described by those who know her as resilient, determined, and deeply committed to personal growth and community impact. As a mother of two daughters, volunteer, mentor, and advocate for women in non-traditional careers, Chelsey has consistently demonstrated perseverance in the face of adversity and a passion for helping others reach their full potential.

After overcoming barriers that once seemed insurmountable Chelsey returned to education with a goal of creating a better future for herself, her family, and her community. Through Women Unlimited, she discovered a passion for the skilled trades and developed a particular interest in pipe trades, HVAC systems, and mechanical systems. Her experiences in the shop, especially soldering and brazing copper pipe, sparked a sense of purpose and excitement that has guided her educational journey.

Chelsey is currently pursuing studies in HVAC and Building Systems at NSCC. When asked what drew her to this field, she shared:

“The moment I picked up a torch and learned to braze copper pipe, something clicked. I felt lit from within. For the first time, I could clearly see a career path that combined problem-solving, creativity, and hands-on work in a way that felt meaningful. My journey hasn’t been conventional, but every challenge I’ve overcome has brought me closer to discovering what I’m capable of.
As a Black and Indigenous woman, a mother, and a future trades professional, I hope to show other women and girls that there is space for them in these industries too.”

Many thanks to all of the incredible folks who applied for the scholarship- we will be accepting applications for the 2026 scholarship until July 15, 2026. Big congrats to Chelsey and best of luck with your studies!
