🎉We are proud to celebrate with Women Unlimited sister and advocate, Ann Brown, who received her honorary diploma from NSCC at convocation this week in HRM.🎉
🎓A graduate of the former Marine & Industrial Rigging program at NSCC IT Campus in Halifax, Ann has worked with Nova Scotia Power for 17 years, first as a rigger and later as an industrial electrician working at power plants and substations.🦺
She founded and continues to serve on WEARE+, an employee resource group supporting women in trades at NSP, and was co-chair of the company's Black employee resource group for three years.
This mother of eight is a strong role model for Black women in trades and has returned time and time again to Women Unlimited as a panellist and mentor to talk trades and serve as an example of overcoming barriers to achieve success.
In May 2023, Ann represented Women Unlimited and Nova Scotia Power as they announced funding to support the Doreen Parsons Legacy Award. The bursary supports Women Unlimited program graduates pursuing trades or technology training at NSCC.
"Women Unlimited opened doors for me I could not have imagined,” Ann said at the time.
The program’s facilitators and team members built her up to take on any challenge and supported her throughout her journey.
“I felt like I mattered," Ann said. "I felt like I was a boss."
💪🏿💪🏿We hope you feel like a boss with that honorary diploma in your hands, Ann! 💪🏿💪🏿
Congratulations on your many accomplishments and for continuing to open doors for diverse women in trades.
Women Unlimited was represented at the ceremony by Program Director Vivian Dixon, Yvette Jarvis, the Program Coordinator from IT Campus, and Terrah Keener, Dean of the School of Access, Business, Creative Industries and Education.
