IWK Foundation

IWK Foundation The IWK Foundation raises funds to support the urgent priority needs of the IWK Health Centre. To learn more about IWK Health, please visit www.iwkhealth.ca.

The IWK Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to support IWK Health—the largest pediatric hospital and trauma centre in Atlantic Canada. IWK Health is also one of only two health centres in Canada that cares for both women and children. As the primary fundraising partner with IWK Health, we want to ensure Maritime women, children, and families needing the advanced and speci

alized care of IWK Health have access to the highest level of care possible. The funds raised through the generosity of our donor community help fund the IWK’s areas of greatest need, including purchasing new and advanced medical equipment, funding leading-edge research, and upgrading care spaces and technology. The IWK Foundation is guided by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics. We are committed to transparency and accountability to the public, our donors, and those who benefit from our fundraising activities.

Finishing up some last minute back-to-school shopping at Walmart? We have it on good authority that you can fit an awful lot of supplies in the new IWK tote bags! 😉

Consider picking up a reusable IWK tote bag for $3 the next time you're at your local Walmart! Each purchase of a reusable bag helps to ensure that Maritime children continue to receive world-class care and treatment close to home.

Bags are rolling out across the region, so keep an eye out at your local Walmart if you don't find one right away!

Now... has anyone seen our coffee cup? 🤔

The first two seasons of The Fifth Wave focused on the issues. We learned how the gender data gap has excluded women from research and medical trials, how women around the world live longer – but in poorer health – than their male counterparts, and how, up until recently, very little was being done to solve these issues.

But now, we have momentum.

Join us for an all-new season of The Fifth Wave. This season, we’re taking a look at what IS working for women’s health – and how you can get involved in the movement.

The Fifth Wave, Season 3 returns on Wednesday, September 9. Look for it on our website, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Last Friday was the 64th Annual Gold Cup Parade in Charlottetown, PEI. It is the largest parade east of Montreal with entries spanning many businesses and community organizations across the Maritimes.

In her role as the IWK's Children's Miracle Network Canada Champion, Ellis attended the parade with her parents as part of The Brick's parade float.

The Brick is a proud CMN partner and they were ecstatic to have Ellis representing the IWK on the parade route. We're incredibly grateful to Ellis and her family for continuing to show up, advocate for, and provide representation for the Maritime patients and families who rely on the IWK!

It's hard to believe it's already time for August's Thank You Thursday!

This month, we're thanking Tyson Spencer and the entire team at Master Halco for their recent donation in support of Maritime patients and families!

Since 2021, over 70 Master Halco locations across North America have participated in the Master Halco Gives Back Program. Each year, individual branches are given the opportunity to decide which organization to support, and this year we're incredibly grateful that Master Halco Dartmouth chose to donate to the IWK!

Thank you so much to everyone at Master Halco Dartmouth for making a difference for IWK patients and families! 🌟

We’re wrapping up our Fifth Wave: Summer Rewind with one last fan-favourite episode from the first two seasons.

This week, we’re replaying an important episode from season two, “Not Built for Us.”

For women of colour, navigating racial bias in healthcare is a matter of survival. From lack of representation in medical tools to lack of funding in research, women of colour continue to unfairly bear the burden of a system not built for them.

Listen in to our final stop on the Fifth Wave: Summer rewind series by visiting iwkfoundation.org/thefifthwave or wherever you get your podcasts.

And don’t forget to tune in to the new season of the Fifth Wave, returning this fall.
