Meet four incredible charities taking part in this year’s Giv’er Charity Challenge and doing powerful, life-changing work across our community and beyond. When you donate to a charity through the Giv’er Charity Challenge, you’re not just supporting a cause, you’re helping real people right here in Nova Scotia.

Here’s a look at how your donations make a difference:

🩵 Ovarian Cancer Canada is accelerating life-saving research, providing support to those affected, and pushing for a future where no lives are lost to ovarian cancer.

🎗️ Childhood Cancer Canada offers critical funding for pediatric cancer research, emergency and bereavement support, and survivor scholarships — supporting families every step of the way.

☀️ Shine Foundation helps young people with severe physical disabilities access personalized “Shine Dreams”, empowering experiences and resources that help them see their potential and thrive.

💙 Halifax NS Down Syndrome Society runs impactful programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, including the much-loved “Camp Wanna Get Down” weekend at Brigadoon Village.

Want to help? When you register for the 2025 Emera Blue Nose Marathon, you can support one of these charities directly, or donate today at: https://bit.ly/giver-charity-challenge-2025

Good Day DS Family and community,
Would you like to be a part of nationwide advocacy, future Canadian programs and grants?

This is your chance to share your story – the good, the challenging, and the everyday realities that shape your experience. We want to hear from:
People with Down syndrome
Parents and family members
Caregivers
Educators and support professionals

The Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) is coordinating a national survey to understand the real experiences of the Down syndrome community across Canada, and members of the Down Syndrome Collaborative are helping to share this important opportunity with you.

Why does this matter?
Because your experiences are unique, important, and too often overlooked. This survey is about creating a true picture of what life is really like for the Down syndrome community in Canada to aid future advocacy initiatives, grants, and program development.

Quick Survey Details:
Takes about 10-15 minutes
100% confidential

Every response provides valuable insights. Whether you've got a lot to say or just a few thoughts, we want to hear from you. Help us tell the real story of our community

Please share with anyone who may be interested.

Many people with Down syndrome will undergo anesthesia more frequently than people without Down syndrome and are at an increased risk for complications from anesthesia. There are several factors to consider when undergoing anesthesia that are unique to people with Down syndrome. In the article linked below, Brian Chicoine, MD, shares information about anesthesia for people with Down syndrome.
