Pride is community care. This week we’re highlighting The Youth Project, supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth across Nova Scotia since 1993.

Today, The Youth Project and the YWCA are working together on housing, on youth mental health, and on shared advocacy.

We are proud of our work with The Youth Project and hold them up for the important and life saving work they do in our community.

Tomorrow will begin Pride Month. Pride Month is both celebration and resistance.

At YWCA Halifax, we stand with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in demanding safety, dignity, and full inclusion. We are for, and by, women, girls, Two Spirit, and gender-diverse people — and we recognize that trans rights are inseparable from gender equity.

Pride is not symbolic. Too many people still face violence, housing insecurity, and exclusion. Our role is clear: provide real supports, amplify community voices, and push for systemic change.

This month, and every month, we choose action over performative gestures.
We show up through our programs, our partnerships, and our advocacy.

Pride is belonging. Pride is safety. Pride is justice.

YWCA Halifax staff attended the Moose Hide Campaign flag raising and walk on May 14th.

The Moose Hide Campaign recognizes that all forms of violence are unacceptable, regardless of gender. The Campaign sees the disproportionate number of women who are victims and the importance of engaging men and boys in addressing this issue. Check out more at: https://moosehidecampaign.ca/

Our YWCA Dartmouth Child Development Centre celebrated Black Excellence Day on May 15th by reading "Koti and the Talking Kente Drum" and reflecting on the power of the talking drum.

Young children at DCDC enjoyed listening to a story about a child living in Ghana and his love for the talking drum. Following the story, children explored their creativity by painting while listening to drum beats, creating a wonderful connection between storytelling, music, and art.

It’s one thing to talk about ongoing disparities in participation, it’s another to do something about it.

The initial sessions were held once a week for eight weeks and attracted 14 participants ranging in age from 16 to 24.
