Next for our speaker spotlight is Suzie Dunn!

Suzie is a professor at Dalhousie's Schulich School of Law and conducts research centering around technology-facilitated gender-based violence. In 2021, Suzie was awarded a Greenberg Prize for Feminist Research.

Suzie is on LEAF National's tech-facilitated gender-based violence committee and will be speaking on the work of this committee, as well her recent intervention on a voyeurism case.

Technology-facilitated gender-based violence is a problem that is significantly increasing in frequency and severity in the internet era. We look forward to hearing Suzie's talk on mitigating this growing issue through various measures.

LEAF Halifax is so fortunate to have Kristina Fifield speaking at our Equality Day 2023 Event.

Kristina is a trauma therpaist at the Avalon Centre. She has now worked in the gender-based violence space for over a decade and is an advocate in gender-based violence and sexual violence related issues in the region and beyond.

Kristina was a key player in the coalition with Wellness Within and LEAF that participated in the mass casualty commission proceedings to ensure the commission responded to the harms of gender-based violence.

Kristina has also been at the forefront of the Can’t Buy My Silence campaign in Nova Scotia. The campaign is committed to ending the misuse of NDAs to buy victims' silence.

Kristina's work and advocacy in the community is extremely impactful and we look forward to hearing her speak more on the misuse of NDAs.

New year, same mission.

After a couple years of rest, the executive committee of LEAF’s Halifax Branch is pleased to announce that LEAF Halifax is back.

Our executive committee has been working behind the scenes and collaborating over the last 6 months to re-establish and revitalize the Halifax Branch.

For those who are new to our page and don’t know about the organization, LEAF is the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund. We strive to advance gender equality in Canada through case intervention, law reform and public education.

Since ’85 LEAF’s cases have resulted in landmark victories across Canada, eliminating discrimination, and securing reproductive freedoms, maternity benefits, spousal support and pay equity.

Stay tuned for future fundraisers and events hosted by LEAF Halifax.
