Screen Nova Scotia member and consultant Hal Richman, in partnership with Holdfast Pictures, will be hosting a FREE one-hour webinar on August 28th for emerging and mid-career film and television producers to present the basics of record keeping and compliance, as well as CRA filing obligations, for the various film incentives and credits.

Mark your calendars: the new Nova Scotia dramedy series "Be Better" will premiere on Bell Fibe TV1 on September 3rd, with new episodes airing weekly. Created and written by Faly Mevamanana, the series is produced by Chelsea Innes (Fennel Films) and directed by Katelyn McCulloch.

"Through humour and heartfelt moments, Be Better explores the evolving relationship between parents and their adult children, the complexities of caregiving, and the challenge of forging your own identity while remaining connected to family and community."

Congratulations to Screen Nova Scotia member Becky Parsons who has been selcted by the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers for the 2026 Paul Bronfman Family Cinematography Intensive 👏 🎥

This intensive will welcome five female-identifying Directors of Photography for a full-time, in-person two-week intensive with the 2026 Norman Jewison Film Program.

TIFF: The Market has selected projects for its inaugural International Financing & Project Market (IFPM) this September, including the feature film "Breathe With Me" from Screen Nova Scotia producer members Jason Levangie and Marc Tetreault (Shut Up & Colour Pictures). The film is an interprovincial co-production with Quebec producer Marie-Claude Poulin, directed by Yves-Christian Fournier.

The IFPM program is designed to accelerate financing and secure coproduction and international collaboration partners for the selected producers via three days of curated meetings and project showcases.

Canadian selections make up the majority of the 51-project slate, which includes features, series and immersive content.

Congratulations to filmmakers and Screen Nova Scotia members Brittney Gavin and Amy Mielke (A+B Roll Films) ➡️ their short film DOUGH MAN will premiere in the 2026 Short Cuts Programme at TIFF!

The film follows three Baptist sisters who hatch an elaborate plan to expose a man in their close-knit community as a witch.

TIFF is a charitable cultural organization with a mission to transform the way people see the world, through film.

The Atlantic International Film Festival has announced the World Premiere of 111 ECHOES FROM HALIFAX as the Opening Night Gala presentation 📽️🍿

Produced by Screen Nova Scotia member Ann Bernier (Auguste Content) and directed by Swiss-Mexican filmmaker Mauro Mueller, the Switzerland-Canada co-production is a dramatization of the 1998 Swissair Flight 111 crash off the coast of Nova Scotia and its aftermath.

U.S. broadcaster The CW has picked up season five of the Canadian drama Sullivan's Crossing, following the previously announced renewal from Bell Media.

Filmed entirely in Nova Scotia, this will showcase the province's diverse locations to millions of viewers across the U.S.
