Too many seniors have stopped believing that something extraordinary could still happen for them.

They've been told, directly or indirectly, that their dreams belong in the past. That adventure, connection, and once in a lifetime experiences are for someone else.

But every day, we see something different.

We see seniors reconnect with family members they never thought they'd see again. We see lifelong dreams fulfilled. We see laughter return, confidence grow, and a renewed sense of purpose take hold.

One senior shared, "I lived in the past, just recalling old memories. Now I feel I can create new ones."

That's the power of a wish.

A wish is more than a moment. It can be a turning point. A reminder that there is still so much life to live, so much joy to experience, and so many memories yet to be made.

If there's a senior in your life who could benefit from a meaningful experience, a reconnection, or the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream, consider nominating them today.

The nomination process only takes a few minutes, but the impact can last a lifetime.

Because no one is ever too old to dream.

⛳ We Are Young Golf Tournament Online Auction ⛳

As part of We Are Young’s 11th Annual Golf Tournament on September 11, we are preparing to launch our online auction at the end of August and are looking to feature incredible items, experiences, and services from businesses across the Atlantic provinces.

There are so many amazing experiences our communities have to offer and we would love to showcase them through this year’s auction. From weekend getaways and golf packages to dining experiences, local products, entertainment, wellness services, and unique adventures, every contribution helps create excitement while supporting wish experiences for seniors.

By contributing an auction item, businesses will be highlighted as part of an event that brings communities together to create meaningful moments for seniors who deserve to feel celebrated, valued, and remembered.

If your business would like to contribute an item or experience, please reach out to Marie at [email protected].

We can't wait so see you one the course in September!🥳

“This is where a wish begins” ❤️

Not with a form.
Not with a fundraiser.
Not with a big moment.

Sometimes, a wish begins with a conversation.
A visit.
A story shared between generations.
Someone taking the time to truly listen.

This simple moment could be the beginning of something life changing.

At We Are Young, we have learned that seniors still carry dreams, hopes, and wishes close to their hearts. Sometimes they simply need someone to ask: “What would your wish be?”

And sometimes, even the possibility of that wish becoming reality can spark excitement, hope, connection, and something meaningful to look forward to again.

If there is a senior in your life who could benefit from having a wish granted, we would love to hear their story.

✨NEW WISH STORY✨

Margaret "Vallie" Walker, 96

At 96 years old, Vallie, known to most as “Queenie,” has spent a lifetime bringing laughter and joy to everyone around her ❤️

Born in Bridgewater, one of twelve children, Vallie’s childhood quickly became one of responsibility after losing her mother at just 11 years old. She left school in Grade 7 to help support her family, working in her father’s flower shop and greenhouses, and later around the sawmill. Life was not easy, but through hardship, loss, and years of sacrifice, Vallie continued forward with resilience, warmth, and humor.

She later devoted her life to raising her three boys on a limited income, becoming known for her resourcefulness, her glazed donuts, knitting, flower arranging, and especially her jokes. Since she was a young girl, Vallie collected jokes from school, the radio, and everyday life, writing them down on scraps of paper over the years. She shared them generously with everyone around her, so much so that people still call her day and night just to hear one.

Vallie shared 43 years of marriage with her husband Joseph, who she says treated her like royalty. After losing him 30 years ago, she continued building a life filled with love, while remaining in the same home she has loved for 73 years.

Now, her lifetime collection of jokes has come full circle.

As her wish through We Are Young, Vallie’s jokes were lovingly compiled into printed books for family and friends who have long treasured her humor. To celebrate, she was surprised with her very own “book launch” party surrounded by the people who love and support her most.

The room was filled with laughter, exactly as it should have been.

Vallie said it was the best day of her life and one she will never forget. She shared something that perfectly captures the impact of the experience:

“I know I am on my way out, but I feel like I just started living” ❤️

A special thank you to Alex MacAulay Photography for capturing Vallie's day.

If there is a senior in your life who you think would benefit from a wish, take a moment to nominate them. You never know the impact it could have on their life. https://www.weareyoung.ca/submit-a-wish ❤️

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Andrew (Andy) Sarka.
https://www.harboursidecremation.ca/obituaries/andrew-sarka/ #!/Obituary

Andy was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan who spent years putting his own dreams aside while caring for his wife and supporting his family through incredibly difficult circumstances. Through it all, his love for the Leafs remained something that brought him comfort, hope, and connection.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, Andy was able to fulfill his wish of attending a Toronto Maple Leafs game live at Scotiabank Arena alongside his son, Kyle. What was once only a dream became a memory they were able to share together forever.

We are deeply grateful to have been part of Andy’s story and will always remember the excitement, emotion, and pride he carried throughout his wish experience.

Our thoughts are with Kyle and the entire Sarka family during this difficult time💙

In memory of Andy, we invite you to watch and celebrate the special moments from his wish experience below thanks to Kochanka Visuals

We are still thinking about our Decade of Dreams celebration ✨

Now that we have had a chance to look through the photos, the gratitude somehow feels even bigger.

What made Wednesday night so special was not just the beautiful Steele Wheels venue, the incredible food by Certainly Cinnamon Catering, or the milestone itself. It was the feeling in the room. A room full of people who believe seniors deserve joy, excitement, adventure, connection, and moments that remind them life can still hold beautiful surprises.

Looking through these photos, we keep coming back to the same thought:
This is what community looks like.

For 10 years, this community has helped create life changing moments for seniors. Wishes that brought comfort. Wishes that rebuilt confidence. Wishes that reunited families, created firsts, sparked laughter, and gave people something meaningful to look forward to again.

Wednesday night was a celebration of every single person who has been part of that journey.

To everyone who attended, sponsored, donated, volunteered, supported, shared stories, or simply believed in this mission over the years, thank you. You helped build something incredibly special.

And somehow, after 10 years, it still feels like we are only getting started ❤️

We will be sharing more memories and moments from the evening over the coming days, so stay tuned. And if you captured photos from the night, please continue tagging We Are Young so we can keep reliving it alongside you.

A sincere thank you to The Berkeley Retirement Residences and Vitality for sponsoring this beautiful celebration, and for standing by us for the past 10 years.

Moments like these mean so much to us ❤️

One of the most special parts of our Decade of Dreams celebration was seeing so many people come together to celebrate seniors, community, and the impact of the past 10 years.

Thank you for being part of such a meaningful evening with us. We are still soaking it all in ✨
