Canada's only urban non-profit riding school and equine therapy centre since 1936.

Our mission is to continue to build better lives through horses for individuals with varying abilities and ages in the heart of Halifax. The only urban non-profit riding school in Canada, Lancers was founded in 1936 to make horses and riding accessible to children living in the city of Halifax. Our therapeutic and junior and adult programs now serve a diverse community of nearly 200 riders of varying abilities ranging in age from 8-70. Our programs help riders develop confidence, responsibility, community-mindedness, and sustain their physical and mental health. Lancers thrives by fostering an environment of teamwork and inclusivity amongst all our riders. As a non-profit in downtown Halifax led by a Board of parents and riders, the horses are owned by the organization. Built on the classic principles of responsible horse care, we’re proud to share with you the “Horses of Halifax.

This past Sunday, we gathered for our Autumn Open House, and what a day it was. 🍂

Our Musical Ride gave its final performance of the season, joined by the wonderful Skyview Eagles Singers. Every season, we're reminded how lucky we are to share this tradition with you.

We were especially honoured to welcome our guest of honour, Mary-Ann Marshal. A Lancer since 1943, Mary-Ann Marshal was a rider in the 1947 Musical Ride performance in Boston, Mass. As a thank you for making the performance, Lancers received the keys to the city. Mary-Ann was the lucky rider chosen to accept the keys. After the performance this past Sunday, we had the privilege of reuniting Mary-Ann with those keys. It was a moment that connected our past and present in the most meaningful way.

For 90 years, the Musical Ride has brought people together, thanks to the riders, volunteers, families, and supporters who have carried it forward. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to everyone who has been part of this story.

Here's to 90 years of Building Better Live Through Horses. 🐎
