Agritourism - Growing the Nova Scotia Story

Agritourism continues to play an important role in Nova Scotia's tourism growth while supporting vibrant rural communities across the province. From long-established farms and orchards to emerging operators like Horse Thief Vineyards , agritourism offers visitors authentic connections to the people, products, and stories that make Nova Scotia unique.

Organizations like FarmWorks Investment Co-operative Limited are also helping fuel growth in the sector by investing in local food and agritourism ventures, enabling businesses to expand operations, introduce new experiences, and strengthen their long-term sustainability. By supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, FarmWorks is helping create economic opportunities in communities across Nova Scotia. TIANS is Hitting the Road this Fall!

Members of the TIANS Team are excited to host a series of upcoming Meet & Greets around the province. These focused events provide the opportunity to connect with tourism colleagues and get the latest information on TIANS programs, resources and business supports. All TIANS Members and potential members are welcome to attend.
Our first stops will be September 10th at the Shelburne Museum VIC from 10:20 AM- 12 noon, then in Mahone Bay at the Whiskey Jack Gallery from 2:30- 4:00 PM.
Additional locations and dates will be announced soon, so keep an eye out for an opportunity to join us in your region this fall!

ACAT – Inspiring Visitation

Each year, the Atlantic Canada Agreement on Tourism (ACAT) brings travel advisors and tour operators from key international markets to experience the region firsthand. In 2026, ACAT is supporting 32 FAM tours, up from 23 in 2025. These immersive experiences help travel trade partners confidently recommend Atlantic Canada, leading to new travel bookings, tour packages and greater awareness of the region. Through FAM tours, ACAT is helping to:

• Increase awareness of Atlantic Canada in key international markets.
• Educate travel advisors and tour operators about experiences across all four provinces.
• Strengthen relationships with the travel trade that influence where visitors choose to travel.
• Showcase how easy it is for travellers to explore multiple Atlantic Canadian provinces in a single trip.

When travel advisors experience Atlantic Canada for themselves, they become trusted ambassadors, helping inspire more visitors to explore the four provinces.

Registration Now Open for NS Museum Conference

Registration is now open for the 50th Association of Nova Scotia Museums (ANSM) Conference, scheduled for October 1–2, 2026, at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton.

Museums play a crucial role in the tourism industry by preserving cultural heritage, driving local economies, and giving visitors a unique sense of what makes Nova Scotia such a special and unique destination.

The conference is open to staff, volunteers, and leaders from all types and sizes of museums. This year's program is focused on the core pillars of community, access, knowledge, and engagement to shape sustainable practices for the future of important community assets.

Public Consultation Opens on Protected Areas

TIANS is pleased that the province has opened a public consultation period regarding protecting over 5,000 more hectares of Nova Scotia's land and water, including three new wilderness areas, as well as additions to seven existing wilderness areas and one existing nature reserve. Protected natural areas help preserve the landscapes, coastlines, forests, and outdoor recreation experiences that attract visitors to Nova Scotia and support our tourism economy. The proposed areas to be protected, now open for public consultation, are:

New wilderness areas:
- Herring Cove Backlands Wilderness Area, Halifax Regional Municipality, 2,910 hectares
- Musquodoboit Harbour Wilderness Area, Halifax Regional Municipality, 308 hectares
- Masons Mountain Wilderness Area, Inverness County, 154 hectares

Additions to existing wilderness areas:
- Canso Coastal Barrens Wilderness Area, Guysborough County, 529 hectares
- Tobeatic Wilderness Area, Yarmouth, Shelburne, Digby and Queens counties, 498 hectares
- Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area, Halifax Regional Municipality, 475 hectares
- Guysborough Headlands Wilderness Area, Guysborough County, 69 hectares
- Medway Lakes Wilderness Area, Annapolis County, 61 hectares
- Ogden Round Lake Wilderness Area, Guysborough County, 34 hectares
- Polletts Cove-Aspy Fault Wilderness Area, Victoria County, 23 hectares

Additions to existing nature reserves:
- Chimney Corner Nature Reserve, Inverness County, 107 hectares

If approved, the new designations will move Nova Scotia closer to its goal of protecting 15 per cent of its land and water by the end of 2026, building on the roughly 800,000 hectares, or 14.56 per cent of the province, that are already under protection.
