Five courageous midwives risk their safety and well-being to attend to expectant mothers worldwide: Inside makeshift tents on the US-Mexico border, across resource-scarce areas of northern Nigeria, encampment parks and shelters in Toronto, high-risk neighbourhoods in Colombia, and remote regions in Afghanistan.

WIFT-AT is honoured to present Meaghan and Ree Wright’s documentary THE LAST DAYS OF APRIL at the Atlantic International Film Festival!

An intimate and deeply moving portrait of disability, community, and self-determination, the film centres on Halifax advocate and adaptive athlete April Hubbard as she navigates the end of her life through the use of MAiD. Approaching mortality without reducing life to illness or tragedy, THE LAST DAYS OF APRIL sustains a focus on dignity, bodily autonomy, friendship, and the community Hubbard cultivated to offer a compassionate and locally resonant reflection on what it means to live—and leave—on one’s own terms.
