Coming to Radcliffe now.

Speed cushions are designed to slow traffic and improve safety. Like speed humps or speed tables, they are raised sections of roadway but with gaps that allow larger vehicles, such as emergency responders, to pass more smoothly.

Understanding how to navigate speed cushions and other traffic calming measures can help keep everyone safer on the road.

We're kicking off Wetlands Appreciation Week with a stroll through a wet forest! Yep, wetlands can have trees! Come learn the differences (and similarities) between a "bog" vs a "swamp" vs a "floodplain" vs a "peatland" vs a "wetland complex"... All clear! I’m pleased to report the safety boom by the dam on the Scott Saunders Memorial Park side of Papermill Lake in Bedford has been repaired. Thank you everyone who was patient and cautious as this fix was put in place, thank you to the lifeguards for keeping an extra close eye on swimmers in the area, thank you to parks staff for being on top of this over the weekend and to the repair crew who moved so quickly to look after community safety.

I know many families in Clayton Park West are eager to learn more about the new Grades 6 to 9 school and what it will mean for their children.

I reached out to HRCE and have been advised that decisions regarding school boundaries and programming, including whether the school will offer English only or dual track programming with French Immersion, will be made closer to the school’s opening, likely during the 2027 to 2028 school year.

The new school is being built to help address enrolment pressures at Park West School. With capacity for more than 900 students, it will also provide HRCE with an opportunity to review student accommodation needs across the Halifax West Family of Schools and may help address enrolment challenges at other nearby schools as well.

I understand that many families have questions about timelines, catchment areas, programming, and opportunities for community input. HRCE has indicated that planning is ongoing and that decisions will be based on the most current enrolment data and population projections available.

As more information becomes available, HRCE will share updates through school communications, direct correspondence, and its website.

A doe with twin fawns on Belchers Marsh today. So sweet!

N.S. power has hired some arborists to clear their right away around little Belchers Marsh. The arborists are specifically clearing maple trees, because they grow so fast. Some of the maple tree crowns were so close to the powerlines that the leaves were burnt.

It is sad to lose the trees, but of course we do like to have electricity.
