🎬 Indigenous Filmmaking at Hellifax Horror Film Festival!

Looking for something different this Halloween season? Check out Ancestral Beasts, the opening-night feature by Indigenous filmmaker Tim Riedel, screening tonight at 7:00 PM!

The film follows a Métis woman who returns to her family's rural home to rebuild her life, only to discover a lethal presence that forces her to decide what she is willing to sacrifice and what she must protect.

The evening also features the short film Before the Sun, followed by a Q&A with director Tim Riedel, hosted by Tiffany Morris, writer of pink horror.

We are excited to welcome everyone back to In-person Mi’kmaw language classes at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre!

Calling all our urban Indigenous community members, whether you’re just beginning your Mi’kmaw language journey or already speak Mi’kmaw, there’s a place for you in our circle!

Even if you already speak Mi’kmaw, come join us! Language grows stronger when we speak it together. This is a wonderful opportunity to practice, build confidence, connect with others, and help keep our language alive for future generations.

Are you an Indigenous student attending university/College in the area? We encourage you to join us too! This is a great opportunity to connect with the local Indigenous community, build relationships, and feel more connected while you’re studying away from home.

What a night.
On Saturday, our community came together for the Kjipuktuk Wije’winen Gala — an evening filled with culture, music, generosity, connection and a shared belief in what the new Wije’winen Centre will mean for generations to come.
To everyone who joined us, donated, volunteered, contributed to our auction, helped behind the scenes, or simply continues to champion this important project: thank you.
We were honoured to share the evening with the incredible Alan Syliboy & The Thundermakers and Wolf Castle, whose performances brought so much energy, pride and spirit to the room.
And to the staff and volunteers of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre who worked for months to bring the evening together — while continuing the Centre’s important work every day of the year — we are deeply grateful.
