It's the final week to register for Museum Fundamentals! 📢 Reserve your spot today! Registration closes Friday October 9th, 2026.

This course provides an overview of what museums are all about and the role they play in society. This is an excellent opportunity for new museum board members, new staff, consultants, government staff as well as mid- and late-career professionals to learn changes in the sector.

Today, on Treaty Day, we recognize the treaties signed in 1752 between Mi’kmaw people and the British crown. We express our appreciation for the opportunity to live and learn together in mutual respect and gratitude. These peace and friendship treaties honour Nova Scotia’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and reaffirm the ongoing presence of Mi’kmaq who have called this land home for thousands of years. Today is also the first day of Mi’kmaw History Month, a time to learn and unlearn, as well as recognize and celebrate Mi’kmaw culture and heritage.

Today, September 30th, marks national day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day dedicated to honouring the survivors of the Residential School system, their families and communities, as well as the children who never made it home. Together as Canadians we must acknowledge the ongoing impacts and the intergenerational effects of the Residential School system as part of our ongoing journey towards truth and reconciliation.

Today is also Orange Shirt Day. The orange shirt is a symbol that recognizes the loss of culture, language and self-esteem that many indigenous children experienced. You are encouraged to wear an orange shirt as a reminder that Every Child Matters.

It's conference week! Today we'd like to thank our gold conference sponsor, Nova Scotia Museum.

This year, the conference is being hosted by the Museum of Industry, one of the 16 Nova Scotia Museum sites. The Museum of Industry is dedicated to the story of Nova Scotia work and workers, and strives to explain how this place was affected by the opportunities and challenges of the Industrial Age and how that helps us understand where we are today and how we might prosper in the future. The museum is located in Stellarton NS, and is open daily 9:30 - 4:30 until Oct. 31. Starting in November, the museum will be open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30-4:30.
