An unprecedented number of su***des committed by stressed out, frustrated taxi drivers in the over-saturated taxi industry in Halifax led to the formation and incorporation of U.C.D.A. One taxi driver put his seat belt on and drove his taxi in to the Harbour. A crane and a diver were brought in to recover the taxi vehicle and the buckled-in deceased taxi driver from the Halifax Harbour. Another ta
xi driver worked all night, he got home before day-light and hanged himself. His family was awfully shocked to see and feel the unforgettable tragedy in the house. Two other drivers took their own lives by shooting themselves in the head. Quite a few taxi drivers died of heart attacks . Another driver used flexible rubber pipe to direct the exhaust into the car to take his own life. Light is turning dimmer and dimmer at the end of the tunnel. A petitioned survey shows that over 90 percent of taxi and limousine drivers support an investigation to restore confidence, fairness, transparency and accountability in the taxi industry in the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Halifax International Airport. Objectives:
(a) The main objective of the Association to start this page is to make the public aware of how the taxi industry is managed and operates in Halifax Regional Municipality. At the same time, try to inform and assist voiceless taxi drivers who are struggling to survive working 8 to 16 hours a day. This is being done at the request of both members and nonmembers
(b) To promote the principles of equality within the taxi industry regardless of race, colour, creed or gender. (c) to do everything possible to seek fairness, transparency, accountability and affordability. IMPORTANT NOTICE
Information provided and opinions expressed here come from the taxi industry in HRM and other Canadian municipalities. United Cab Drivers Association of Halifax does not condone violence in any shape or form.
