Important words from Richard Rohr in my inbox this morning:

"A phrase I used a lot back when I first started teaching contemplation was the idea associated with Albert Einstein that no problem can be solved by the same consciousness that created it. It is so brilliant! It makes the case for contemplation almost better than anything.
I don’t believe I’m overstating it when I say that only the contemplative mind can help bring forward the new consciousness needed to awaken a more loving, just, and sustainable world. We need a practice that touches our unconscious conditioning where all our wounds and defense mechanisms lie. That’s the only way we can be changed at any significant or lasting level.
Because we’ve got to be honest — the dualistic, calculating, and judging mind is almost exclusively the way most of us Western people think. This gives us false superiority, false security, and false righteousness."

This is the mind that created our current mode of being, so which mind will you foster?

This is a brand new site, created so that people can look up alternatives to the big 5 in Canada (Loblaws, Sobeys, Costco, Walmart, Metro). Windsor doesn't have any listings yet - that's how new this is. Let's fill it up with our favourite local independent grocers 🙂
Joseph's, Mercato, Remark, Downtown Farmer's Market, Fred's, Namaste Market and a tonne of East Indian and International grocers in town..
This is how change happens.

*Edit: to add an independent grocer, close to you, just take the link to the page, and "add resource". 🙂!

Explore Altgrocery.ca, a crowdsourced platform facilitating the discovery of independent grocers, bakeries, country markets, international stores, and local farmers' markets in Canada. Navigate through provinces or cities with our interactive map to find unique shopping destinations near you.

The Buddha used this image. If you put a little dirt in a pitcher of water, then that water has to be thrown away. People cannot drink it. But if you put the same amount of dirt into a huge river, people can continue to drink from the river, because the river is so immense. Overnight that dirt will be transformed within the heart of the river. So if your heart is as big as a river, you can receive any amount of injustice and still live with happiness. You can transform overnight the injustices inflicted on you. If you still suffer, your heart is still not large enough. That is the teaching of forbearance and inclusiveness in Buddhism. You don’t practice to suppress your suffering; you practice in order for your heart to expand as big as a river. — Thich Nhat Hanh

Let’s maintain our trees so they feed us as we feed them. This works even in a small urban or suburban yard. Pollarding is part of my young food forest. And I do it at the church I help garden at in urban Halifax.

There are different pruning techniques, depending on the look you want. Here's what it means if you see a tree with its branches cut back to the trunk.
