Where are you looking? Because they’re looking at you.
The Tip: One of the most salient parts of virtual communication is eye contact—but it’s not where you think it is.
The Trick: Stop looking at the faces on your screen! To your audience, it looks like you’re looking down. Instead, place a small "smiley face" sticker right next to your camera lens. Treat that lens as your most supportive friend in the room. When you speak to the lens, you speak to the heart of your audience.
The Hint: If you’re using notes, try a digital teleprompter app or move your script window as close to the top of your screen (near the camera) as possible.
