Birdland Community Garden

Birdland Community Garden A community garden in Rockingham, Halifax located at D.J. Butler Park.

The mission is to provide space for citizens to garden together – to create a shared vision, to work collaboratively, and to cultivate a place for inter-generational and inter-cultural interactions with individuals, seniors, families and friends to learn about and to experience the rewards of gardening. We are committed to promoting healthy eating habits by encouraging home gardening activities which will help to foster healthy community pride.

It’s beginning to look a lot like summer as this year’s gardeners get into the swing of things. The temperature was cold but we all quickly warmed up as we got the 25 garden beds ready for planting. Thanks to all the volunteers, board members and community supporters who once again helped to make this year’s season a success.

After a few hours, and thousands of seeds later board members had stuffed all the boxes for the free Seed Library. We're very excited about being able to provide free seeds to the community. We have lots of vegetable seeds, plus herbs and flowers. These seeds will enable people to try gardening with a minimal investment of funds. Our goal is to get the Seed Library up this weekend on Opening Day of the garden.

Special thanks to Adegoke Fadare, MLA Clayton Park West for his support for the Birdland Community Garden!
