We had a very successful 2026 garden season. We implemented several new initiatives before the garden season. The first big thing was we created a Watering Committee with dedicated board members and garden volunteers willing to oversee filling up the water tanks and barrels. This made a huge differe...

What a beautiful, sunny evening for our annual Birdland Community Garden Potluck. It was wonderful to celebrate another successful season with our dedicated gardeners, volunteers, neighbours, and supporters.

A heartfelt thank you to our MP, Lena Metlege Diab, and HRM Councillor Kathryn Morse for joining us as we showcased our thriving community garden and the positive impact it continues to have.

Birdland Community Garden flourishes because of the incredible people who give their time, energy, and passion to make it a welcoming, educational, and beautiful space for everyone. Every garden bed, every flower, and every harvest is a testament to what a community can accomplish when we work together.

Here's to another season of growing food, friendships, and community!

Special thanks to Bob Cervelli for giving us a tour of the St. Margaret’s Bay Transition garden, which is a non-profit organization established in 2011. This garden was created to add resilience in a community in order to address the many possible global changes in energy supply, unstable economies and environmental depletion in the years ahead. It truly was a delight to see how much produce they grow, with volunteer help, for the local community.

It’s beginning to look a lot like summer as this year’s gardeners get into the swing of things. The temperature was cold but we all quickly warmed up as we got the 25 garden beds ready for planting. Thanks to all the volunteers, board members and community supporters who once again helped to make this year’s season a success.

After a few hours, and thousands of seeds later board members had stuffed all the boxes for the free Seed Library. We're very excited about being able to provide free seeds to the community. We have lots of vegetable seeds, plus herbs and flowers. These seeds will enable people to try gardening with a minimal investment of funds. Our goal is to get the Seed Library up this weekend on Opening Day of the garden.
