“Sometimes the thing that changes a person’s career isn’t a job offer. It’s a conversation.”

Most career-shaping moments don’t come from months of training. They happen when someone shares real-world experience or offers advice at the right moment.

The MentorAbility program connects job seekers who self-identify as having disabilities with local professionals for short-term mentoring. From a simple one-hour virtual call to a quick workplace tour to a job shadowing, these experiences can completely change the direction of someone’s life.

Meet Sare, our Employment Facilitator at TEAM Work Cooperative ✨

Originally from Antalya, Turkey, Sare has called Nova Scotia home for nearly 10 years. She joined TEAM Work in April 2025 after previously being a client herself, bringing both professional knowledge and lived experience into the work she does every day.

With a background in Psychology and autism research, Sare first joined TWC as a Case Manager before transitioning into her current role with the Autism@Work program. Her own experiences as a job seeker allow her to approach clients with deep empathy, understanding, and compassion - helping individuals on the spectrum feel supported throughout their employment journey 💙

Outside of work, Sare loves music and plays several instruments including the piano, guitar, ukulele, and kalimba 🎶 She’s also a proud LEGO Botanicals collector and enjoys connecting with fellow LEGO enthusiasts.

We’re so grateful for the care, positivity, and lived experience Sare brings to the TWC team every day ✨ If you’ve ever worked with or connected with Sare, share your experience or leave her a kind message in the comments below ⬇️

Access to Success was exactly that- raw, real, inspiring, and deeply human.

Keynote speaker Tia Upshaw
brought authenticity to the stage in a way that reminded everyone in the room of one powerful truth: your story matters.

Telling our stories creates connection, breaks stigma, and opens doors for others to see what’s possible.

Our panel shared their vulnerabilities while also sharing why self- employment is living your best life!

The entrepreneurial market showcased creativity, resilience, and innovation from incredible entrepreneurs building their own paths forward.

The energy in the room lifted thanks to the music and vibes from Universal Soul and Dj IV, while our energized host
Otni Asare-Adjei kept the momentum flowing all day long!

A huge thank you to the amazing staff and organizers from TEAMWork Cooperative and the talented Christina at Job Junction - Nova Scotia Works Halifax whose event planning made the entire production move with ease and purpose.

We are also grateful to our funders, the Government of Canada and
MentorAbility Atlantic Canada and our community supporters and attendees, for helping create spaces where people can connect, learn, and thrive.

The journey to self-employment is never easy, but for many people living with disabilities, entrepreneurship can mean the difference between simply surviving and truly thriving.

Today was a reminder that accessibility, inclusion, and opportunity matter. And so do the people courageous enough to share their stories. 💛

We couldn’t have been more excited to represent Avalon Employment Inc. Autism-At-Work alongside our friends Avalon Employment Inc. and MentorAbility Atlantic Canada as proud sponsors of the East Coast Music Awards

Throughout the week, we had the incredible opportunity to connect with industry professionals, share lived experience and knowledge, and support conversations around building more inclusive, accessible, and neuroaffirming spaces within the music industry.

Our Business Lead, Rob Casey, and Employment Facilitator, Nikki Cater, also joined Errin Williams on a panel focused on networking in the music industry, offering practical tips centered on wellness, authenticity, and reducing overwhelm.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, artists, organizers, and attendees who helped make the 2026 ECMAs such an incredible success. We’re grateful to have been part of such an inspiring week!

🎉 The 2026 Hiring Affair was a HUGE success! 🎉

Yesterday afternoon, job seekers and local employers came together for an afternoon of meaningful conversations, career exploration, and connection.

What made this event so special was the relaxed and welcoming environment. Job seekers had the opportunity to chat with employers, ask questions, learn about different industries, and make connections that could support their next employment steps.

Thank you to every job seeker, employer, staff member, and community partner who helped make the afternoon such a success. We’re so grateful to everyone who showed up, participated, and helped create a space where opportunity felt a little more approachable.

Sometimes, one conversation really can open the door to what’s next!
