Help us help them find a permanent home. United We Win Halifax urgently needs your support. We are helping the Abdille family relocate from Daadab, the world's largest refugee camp, to a new life in Halifax. In 1991 Abdinassir and Rahmo Abdille fled war-torn Somalia, They have since been living and raising their 7 children (all under 18) in the Daadab Refugee camp. In addition, to the extreme pov
erty, difficult living conditions and looming concerns over COVID-19, two members of the family have severe asthma. The father, Abdinassir Abdille and his 14-year-old daughter, Nasteeh. United We Win Halifax is working closely with Nasra Gele, Abdinassir’s sister, a Somali-Canadian who has lived in Halifax since 1997. She has not seen her brother in over 25 years and is extremely worried about Abdinassir and Nasteeh’s declining health. Poor housing, lack of portable water, cooking over campfires and limited medical facilities only worsens respiratory conditions and makes them more susceptible to diseases and viral outbreaks. Like so many other newcomers before them, once the Abdille family is safe and healthy, they will enrich our community with their contributions. United We Win Halifax is privately sponsoring the Abdile family, which means we will help them find a place to live, figure out health care, and register children for school. We also need to demonstrate to the Canadian government they have financial support for 1 year. For a family of 8 in Nova Scotia, according to federal immigration and sponsorship guidelines, this is about $30,000. This will cover rent, food, clothing, start up costs (and will of course be supplemented by donations). This money needs to be in the bank account we have set up for them before we can start the paper work. It takes about 18-24 months from starting to fill out sponsorship forms to when the family arrives in their new home. You can contact us directly or make an e-transfer to [email protected]
As we are a private sponsorship group, we are not permitted to issue charitable tax receipts. Thank you so much for your support. Jen and Dave
