After a brief summer pause, the Neighbourhood Shop is reopening this week!

Starting September 2nd, our doors will be open every Wednesday and Thursday. Drop by, reconnect, explore the space, and see what’s taking shape as we get ready for another season of learning, making, and doing together.

Our Movie Media Meetups have come to an end for now.
Across seven film sessions, community members gathered to watch films exploring race, racism, identity and lived experiences, followed by meaningful conversations. These evenings created space to listen, reflect, learn from one another and connect through stories that matter.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who came out, shared their thoughts and helped make each gathering feel thoughtful and welcoming.
A heartfelt thank you to Fawn from Racism Nova Scotia and Hank, Community & Business Development Coordinator at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre. Their collaboration brought these gatherings to the community and created space for these important conversations.
A special thank you to recent NSCC interpreter graduates Aiyana and Adrian, who generously provided ASL interpretation throughout the later half of the sessions and helped make these gatherings more accessible.
Please note that our final Movie Media Meetup, scheduled for this Thursday, August 27, has been cancelled.

In August, we’ll be taking a short pause to reset, recharge, and get ready for our 15th Fall Programming.
We’ll reopen for our regular shop hours on Wednesday, September 2, with Fall Programming running September 3 to November 14.
Before we kick things off, we’d love to see you at one special August event! Join us for Movie Media Meet-Up #4 on Thursday, August 27, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. as we watch Jordan River Anderson: The Messenger (2019, directed by Alanis Obomsawin), followed by a relaxed community conversation about the film.

Wela’lioq to everyone who joined us for our annual Big Picnic! 💛
It was such a wonderful afternoon filled with conversation, laughter, music, creativity, games, and community. Seeing neighbours gather, connect, and spend time together is what Every One Every Day is all about, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us.
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing collaborators who helped make the day so special. We were thrilled to have Wonder’neath Art Bikers leading creative activities, the Ecology Action Centre’s Bike Hub offering bike tune-ups and repairs, the Community Mobilization Team connecting with community members, Linda Denny sharing the traditional Mi’kmaw game of Waltes, and Céline.V helping get everyone dancing together & bringing bubbles. A special thank you as well to Marcel Symonds, whose live music brought such incredible energy and joy to the park throughout the afternoon.
Events like these are only possible because of the people who generously share their time, talents, and enthusiasm. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, collaborated, and spent the day celebrating community with us.

Our July program has officially begun! 💚 See this month’s full calendar and find out how you can get involved.

This summer, our community programming is gathering around an incredibly exciting milestone: the construction of the new Wije’winen centre! While the future home of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre grows, we are transforming the construction fence itself into a vibrant canvas for community storytelling, public art, and placemaking. Together, we’ll dive into hands-on building, creative design, and community reflection to shape a public space that reflects who we are, where we’ve been, and where we are going. Everyone is welcome.

Here is what’s coming up this month:

Open Table Sessions

When: Every Wednesday and Thursday, 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Where: Neighbourhood Shop

An open studio time to dive into the project from every angle. Whether you want to help us design, build, and make progress on our big summer project, or just need a supportive shop space to work on a personal project of your own, our doors are open!

Community Engagement Session

When: Thursday, July 9th, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Where: Neighbourhood Shop

Help shape the path ahead! Come hang out, learn how the design process works from the inside out, and contribute your brilliant ideas and crucial input to the upcoming fencing project.

Build Week!

When: July 28, 29, 30, and 31, 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Where: Fence Site (Corner of Rainnie Dr. & Gottingen)

We are bringing the design to life, and we want you on the team! Join the community build trailer, the OSO planning and design team, and DAL Architecture Free Lab students as we build and install the project together on site. All skills, all ages, let’s build together!

It’s time to step back and celebrate! Come see the finished project, hang out with your neighbours, and celebrate the incredible community spirit that made this beautiful work happen.

Join us for our annual Big Picnic at George Dixon Park for an afternoon of food, games, and easy summer hangs with neighbours. We’ll have a BBQ going, outdoor games, crafts with the Art Bikers from Wonderneath, a bike repair station with the Ecology Action Centre, and the Community Mobilization Team on site if you want to stop by for a chat.

Just a friendly heads-up that Every One Every Day Kjipuktuk will be closed on Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2.

We'll be taking a short break and will reopen during our regular hours the following week. We look forward to welcoming everyone back into the space soon.

Today, we celebrate the rich cultures, languages, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, who have lived on, cared for, and stewarded these lands since time immemorial.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to honour the strength, knowledge, and diversity of Indigenous communities while recognizing the importance of continuing to learn, listen, and build relationships rooted in respect and reciprocity. Today and every day, we honour the natural world and recognize our shared responsibility to care for and protect the lands, waters, and all living things.

We're wrapping up our final Spring Action Week with an afternoon of creativity, reflection, and community learning. Join us for our last day of Spring programming as we make kites together and explore meaningful approaches to acknowledgements, relationships, and the places we call home.

Kite Making! | 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Design and create your own kite using simple materials and plenty of imagination. This family-friendly session is all about creativity, making together, and enjoying a playful afternoon with neighbours.

Acknowledgement in Relation | 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Join us for a thoughtful conversation about acknowledgements and what it means to be in relationship with the lands and communities around us. Together, we'll reflect on personal connections to place and explore how acknowledgements can be meaningful, sincere, and grounded in action.
