Earlier this May, I had the privilege of sitting down with CBC/Radio-Canada journalist François Lacroix-Lafrenière to speak about the importance of education and awareness around human trafficking.

During this conversation, I shared parts of my personal story, the realities many survivors face, and some of the warning signs that may indicate someone is being groomed or exploited.
Human trafficking is happening closer to home than many people realize, and education is one of the strongest tools we have to protect our youth, support survivors, and break cycles of exploitation.

This interview was especially meaningful because it is now helping bring awareness not only here in Nova Scotia, but across Canada through a French-language platform. For many French-speaking communities, this may be their first opportunity to hear my story and learn more about the realities of trafficking, grooming, and survivor advocacy.

My hope is that by continuing these conversations, we can help people recognize the signs earlier, create safer communities, and remind survivors that they are not alone.

Thank you to CBC/Radio-Canada for creating space for these important conversations and for helping amplify survivor voices across the country.

There are parts of my story that many people never knew.
Not because I was hiding them… but because surviving them took everything I had.

Today, the work I do through Empowerment For Hope Society is not just “work” to me — this is my life.
As a survivor of intimate partner violence and trafficking, as an advocate, and as a community member directly impacted by these realities, I understand the pain, fear, silence, and survival that so many people carry every single day.

My goal has always been simple:
To help support those who are at risk, currently struggling, or navigating life after survival.

I know what it feels like to wonder if healing is even possible.
I know what it feels like to fight just to make it through another day.
And because of that, I’ve committed my life to creating spaces where survivors feel seen, heard, supported, and empowered.

I’ve shared parts of my lived experience through CBC News and the NSSC Journalism Program. Through these stories, you will better understand my journey, my advocacy, my passion for this work, and why I refuse to stay silent.

My pain did not define the end of my story.
It became part of the purpose behind it.

If my voice can help even one person choose hope, seek support, or realize they are not alone — then sharing my story is worth it.

Today I was honored to be part of the walk to remember and honor the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S).
It was a powerful and emotional experience—walking in unity, reflection, and solidarity with Indigenous communities. Each step was a reminder that these are not just statistics, but lives that mattered deeply, families forever changed, and voices that deserve to be heard.
I carry this with me not just today, but every day—a commitment to continue raising awareness, standing for justice, and honoring the lives that were taken too soon.
We remember. We honor. We stand together.

This situation has been weighing heavily on me. To see something like this happening right here in our Dartmouth community is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking.

My heart is with the survivor at the center of this case. As someone who works closely with and advocates for survivors, I know that cases like this don’t just impact one person—they ripple through our entire community. For many survivors and victims, news like this can be triggering. It can bring back fear, trauma, and memories that people are working so hard to heal from. It can also make some feel unsafe, unseen, or even afraid to come forward.

This is why awareness, education, and support are so critical. Human trafficking and s*xual violence are real, and they are happening closer to home than many realize. We cannot stay silent.

I am thinking about every survivor who may be struggling today because of this news. You are not alone, and your voice matters. There are safe spaces, support systems, and people who care deeply about your healing and your journey.

As a community, we have a responsibility to stand together—to believe survivors, to support them, and to continue advocating for change and protection.
Let’s continue to be a voice for those who feel they don’t have one. 💛

Today I received this Certificate of Congratulations, and it took me all the way back.

I remember my very first pitch competition with Black Women in Excellence. My hands were shaking. I cried real tears. It was the first time I stood in front of judges, other entrepreneurs, and a live audience to share my story—why Empowerment For Hope Society was created and how it would serve our community.

At that time, I didn’t know much about business or financial structure. But I stepped out of my comfort zone and did it anyway—for me.
Looking back now, I realize how much I’ve grown over the past 3 years.

Sometimes I wish those pitch competitions were still happening because I know I would show up even stronger today.
Receiving this recognition from the House of Commons truly put a smile on my face. It’s a reminder that every step, even the shaky ones, mattered.

Shout out to Tia Upshaw for opening that door and creating space for so many Black women to step forward and share their visions. Thank you for believing in us.

There are moments in life that truly stop you in your tracks… and this is one of them.
Being featured in the Black Business Magazine is more than just an accomplishment—it’s a reflection of purpose, perseverance, and legacy in motion.
This moment represents the work I’ve poured my heart into through Empowerment For Hope Society, and the lives that continue to be touched, healed, and restored along the way.

I won’t lie—this interview brought me to tears. Looking back over the past three years, since November 2022, I see growth, resilience, and a journey I once couldn’t fully imagine for myself. If someone had told me back then that I would be here today, I’m not sure I would have believed it.

But here I am.
And I am deeply grateful.

Thank you for this incredible feature and for recognizing the impact of survivor-led, purpose-driven work. This is bigger than me—this is about community, healing, and creating spaces where hope is restored every single day.
Legacy is being built… one step, one story, one breakthrough at a time. 💛
