Kidical Mass Halifax

Kidical Mass Halifax Kidical Mass is an international movement to create a “Kidical Mass” of families who want to enable children's independent and safe mobility.

Our rides are a celebration of cycling and a way to show that we need safe spaces to ride. Each ride is no more than a few kilometres, and is supported by community ride marshals. We strive to make each ride comfortable for people of all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome, including children on their own bikes, and those without children!

Let’s try this again!!
It’s here! Come join us for our season opener as we had to cancel May’s ride due to weather! A family favourite, we’ll be riding the Halifax Waterfront ending up at the Submarine Playground. Big thanks to for providing our kiddos with post-ride slushies again this year! Ride begins on Devonshire Ave, at Vincent Street. Please be sure to complete our online waiver in advance of the ride. You can find full ride details on our website. We can’t wait to see you there!

It’s been a long winter, and we are ready to bring some bike joy back to Halifax! Join us for a spring community meet-up! We’ve assembled a few other bike minded folks in hopes to get everyone ready to ride this season! Have some kids bike gear that your crew has outgrown? Did someone do some growing over the winter and in need of some new wheels this year? Please bring your pre-loved kids bikes and kid hauling gear to sell! Bike tune-ups will be available from the EAC, our friends from Halifax Cycles will have a fleet of E-Cargo bikes available for demo, and the BIke Brigade crew will be on site taking food donations for our local community fridges. We can’t wait to catch up!

We could really use a few more ride marshals for our ride this weekend in Dartmouth. If you, or someone you know is willing & available Sunday morning at 9:30am, we’d love to have your/their support. Ride marshals are integral to keeping our rides safe for kids and families. Their main role is to stop/cork traffic at intersections so that the group can proceed through together, rather than get broken up by vehicles. We have a particularly tricky intersection on this weekend’s ride, so we want to make sure we have enough support to handle that safely.

This role is ideal for folks who aren’t bringing young kids on the ride. If this sounds like something you can help with, please get in touch via DM or an email to: [email protected]

Our August ride is coming up soon - this weekend in the north end of Halifax!

We’ll start at St. Stephen’s Elementary school and ride the Isleville St bikeway together heading south and then north again, to end at Isleville Park.

Isleville Park has a bit of something for everyone: splash pad, sand box, playgrounds, and shady spots. Our friends from Woozles will join us at 11:00am for story time under a shady tree in the park, and we’ll have all the usual snacks and prizes too. We can’t wait to see you there!

Hey ! On Tuesday August 5, HRM Council will (again) be voting on the Morris St bike lane. The threat of provincial over-reach has prompted city staff to recommend not proceeding with the bike lane on Morris St.

But, we can’t delay any more! Our city needs a complete bike network that allows kids to get around independently in , and we need it NOW.

Please write to your councillor, and all of Halifax council & encourage them to stay the course on the Morris St. bike lane. Tell them your stories about biking with your kids, and tell them how important it is to keep building the bike network.

Write to the province. Share your stories with your MLA & the Premier. CC relevant ministers: Maguire (Education), Lohr (Muni Affairs), Halman (Enviro/Climate Change), Thompson (Health/Wellness), LeBlanc (Growth/Devel) or any others you can connect to your story. List of MLAs: https://nslegislature.ca/members/profiles-table

Thanks for writing Kidical Mass family and friends!
