On Monday we celebrated the opening of the redesigned Kai Matthews Bike Park and were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our community. The energy and smiles from everybody warmed our hearts.

The new bike park would not have been possible without support from HRM Parks and Recreation, District 13 councillor Nancy Hartling, and the creativity, skill and dedication of Devon White and his crew from Dirt Love Designs.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the many businesses who generously donated amazing prizes for our raffle, Legendary Hospitality Group for the BBQ, tacos and ice cream, Cycle Smith for the tune-ups, Maritime Jibbers for the beats, Spindatt for the call outs, Alex Ryan for the hydration, and Joseph Allison for capturing the moments.

We are excited to invite our community to celebrate the opening of the redesigned Kai Matthews Bike Park at 366 Big Hubley Lake Drive on Monday, September 7th from 2-4 pm.

The park has been redesigned by Dirt Love Designs https://www.instagram.com/dirt.love.designs/ into a modern bike-optimized recreation space that supports riders of varying ages and abilities.

Bring your bike on September 7th to receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win some amazing prizes. Grab a bite from our BBQ and get a free tune up on your bike with our on-site CycleSmith mechanic.

This community project has been made possible through the generosity, encouragement and hard work of many local residents, organizations and supporters.

Thank you Nova Scotia Snowboard for this beautiful post which was filled with so much love for Kai.

Some legacies live on far beyond the time we had with someone and at NS Snowboard, some partnerships go far beyond sponsorship. 💙

We want to take a moment to thank BforKai for their continued support of our community.

Our connection with BforKai is about so much more than sponsorship. It’s about remembering Kai, a former provincial team rider, whose passion for snowboarding and impact on our community will never be forgotten.

Through BforKai’s support, our athletes receive BforKai swag, but more importantly they hear Kai’s story. They learn about the incredible rider, teammate, brother, son, and friend he was. Kai tragically died from Meningitis B and his family and friends have created this organization to raise awareness and influence change. Many of our younger athletes never had the chance to meet Kai, but through these moments we are able to share memories and keep his spirit and love for snowboarding alive within our community.

We are honoured to help carry Kai’s story forward and to be part of his legacy. Thank you to BforKai for continuing to support our athletes and for allowing us to be a part of carrying forward his legacy. ❤️💙🏂
