Dear Frag Community,
We write to you today with heavy hearts and a deep sense of responsibility to share that we have made the incredibly difficult decision to postpone our upcoming event.
This is not the outcome any of us wanted. We know how much time, money, and energy the community has poured into preparing for this Frag for Cancer. We’ve felt that same excitement ourselves and have worked tirelessly to bring this event to life.
One of the unique challenges we faced this year was securing a venue. Due to transitions in staffing at the Lighthouse Art Center, our options scheduling became limited. The lack of availability made planning even more difficult than usual this year. After trying to book the venue over a year ago, the only weekend available to us was Thanksgiving weekend. We as a team discussed and agreed to take the risk to book the date, knowing our turnout would be lower than our repeated sold out attendance. No one is at fault, and we’re grateful for the continued partnership with the Lighthouse team, and look forward to next year. In a final push to save the event, members of the community came together in an inspiring last-ditch effort to create blank teams and help fill in the gaps. It was a noble and selfless attempt to cover the remaining spots and help offset the financial burden we were facing. It truly moved and shocked us that the community cares so much, we are extremely grateful for this show of support and dedication.
However, despite these efforts, the reality is that more than half of the BYOB team spots have gone unfilled, this leaves us in a challenging position of vacant seats. The attendees we were counting on to fill those seats would have supported the event with their purchases of merchandise, raffle tickets, and more. Those funds help us with the next year’s event; Without them, the financial risk becomes too great. The truth is, hosting this event under these conditions could leave Frag unable to cover its base event costs of roughly $25,000. This is something we cannot take lightly.
And so, while it pains us to say it, postponing the event is the only responsible choice we can make.
We ask for your continued support as we look ahead to the future. All players and spectators will receive refunds. We are committed to rescheduling so that we make sure our community has an event they truly deserve and that we are proud of. We do have confirmation that our event will be returning to November 2026 to accommodate schedules for all who wish to continue to support us.
We know this news is deeply disappointing, and trust us, we feel it too. We’d like to formally acknowledge this has hurt our relationship within our community. In the future we shall be more transparent with you all, starting with public tracking of the number of registered teams. In the upcoming weeks we're going to add a new page on our website, full of questions and answers on how Frag for Cancer is run as an event, including more information on the cost breakdowns.
Please know this is not the end; It’s an unfortunate pause. So that when we return, we can do so stronger, more prepared, and with the full strength of our incredible community behind us. Keep an eye on this space as we have a surprise for you this Spring to make sure you have a little Frag in your life before November 2026.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing in what we’re building, and thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being part of Frag, and helping us kick cancer’s butt by playing video games.
With appreciation and respect,
The Frag Team
