REMINDER: Join the Halfmoon Bay Community Association for our annual Ivy Pull on Thursday, May 29 at 9:30 AM as we work together to restore two beautiful areas along Mintie Road.

This year we’ll be taking care of and tackling:
The Circle Trail and its beach access
The Beach access just past the Halfmoon Bay General Store

English ivy may look charming in storybooks, but out here it quietly smothers native plants, blankets the forest floor, and climbs trees until they weaken under the weight. We’ve already seen real success at Coopers Green Park thanks to volunteers — and now it’s Mintie Road’s turn.

Bring your clippers, loppers, hand saws, or battery-powered reciprocating saws and meet us at the Circle Trail on Mintie Road.

A few hours of community effort can make a remarkable difference.

There’s a certain kind of Monday morning on the Sunshine Coast…

Coffee in hand.
Clouds moving across the bay.
No rush to be anywhere else for a little while.

That’s the spirit of Coffee Talk at Coopers Green Hall.

A simple gathering.
Good conversation.
And a chance to begin the week in community.

A walk along the shore turns into a slow afternoon by the water.

Kids drift between the beach and the music.
People stop for “just one drink”, meet a friend and stay for hours.
The ocean breeze winds its way through the trees.

And at the end of the day, the sunset reminds us what we love most about summer at Coopers Green. And why we fell in love with this community.

The Halfmoon Bay Fair returns July 12.

Thanks Chelsea Staver for the gorgeous photos.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Broom Busting efforts!

Over 20 local residents asked to have invasive Scotch broom picked up from their properties this year and that is something worth celebrating.

Scotch broom may look cheerful when it blooms, but it spreads aggressively, crowds out native plants, and increases wildfire risk. Every pile removed makes a real difference to the health of our local environment.

Thank you to our volunteers and community members who took the time to cut, gather, haul, organize, and help protect the beautiful natural spaces we all share.

Bit by bit, year by year, these coordinated community efforts are making an impact here in Halfmoon Bay.

Now that’s community spirit.

During Emergency Preparedness Week earlier this month, the Sunshine Coast Regional District shared important reminders about the value of being prepared — not just individually, but as neighbours and communities as well.

As part of that ongoing conversation, Nancy Hughes and Erin Wilson, Emergency Management Coordinators with the Sunshine Coast Regional District, will be presenting a practical and informative discussion on emergency preparedness on the Sunshine Coast, with a special focus on neighbourhood emergency planning.

Emergency Preparedness
Sunday, May 24
3:00 – 4:30 PM
Coopers Green Hall

Whether you’re just getting started or already have a plan in place, this is a valuable opportunity to learn, ask questions, and connect with others in the community. Because in Halfmoon Bay, preparedness isn’t just about supplies. It’s about neighbours knowing neighbours.

🚨 Being ready for emergencies isn’t hard! 🚨

Take a few simple steps to help protect yourself and your family:

📍 Know the risks – Understand hazards specific to our community
📝 Make a plan – Everyone in your household should know what to do
🎒 Get an emergency kit – Be self-sufficient for at least 144 hours

A little preparation today can make a big difference tomorrow.

There’s something about summer under the trees at Coopers Green.

Music drifting through the park.
Kids running barefoot.
People dancing without really caring who’s watching.
Someone eating mini donuts in a lawn chair.
Random inflatable tubes.
Unexpected moments.
And the kind of community events that are wonderfully real.

The Halfmoon Bay Fair returns July 12 at Coopers Green Park.

📷Thanks Chelsea Staver for these beautiful shots.

Long weekends have a way of slowing things down a little.

More time for another cup of coffee.
A longer conversation.
And maybe a chance to finally stop by and say hello.

We decided to have a holiday edition Coffee Talk today because it’s the perfect time for good conversation and some lingering with old and new friends.

Coffee will be on.
Treats will be waiting.
And there’s always room for a few more chairs.

The view through the windows at Coopers Green Hall this week has been something special.

Warm spring light on the water. Quiet beach moments. The benches filling up with neighbours, coffee cups, conversations, and people simply slowing down for a while.

And someone carefully arranged shells across the picnic table down by the water. It’s only May, but already there’s that feeling in the air again. Long evenings. Bare feet on warm wood. Kids collecting treasures along the shoreline while the grownups lose track of time watching the water.

Places like Coopers Green are part of what makes Halfmoon Bay feel like home-shared spaces where memories are made, traditions quietly continue, and community happens naturally.
