We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Amanda MacDonald Green as the new president of Doctors Nova Scotia (DNS) for 2026-27🎉

A family physician since 2014, Dr. MacDonald Green provides primary care at the collaborative practice in Windsor that she and a colleague opened to serve the community. She is also a preceptor and assistant professor with Dalhousie Family Medicine’s Annapolis Valley Teaching Site.

What she loves about family medicine is the close relationships that develop between physicians and patients over time. “When you truly know the patient, you know what’s normal for them and what’s not normal. You also know the broader life and socio-economic factors that affect them and you can use all that knowledge to choose the appropriate diagnostics and treatments for them.”

In addition to building her practice over the past years, Dr. MacDonald Green has also been building her leadership skills through training and hands-on experience. She has completed leadership courses through the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and Health Excellence Canada.

She has been the NSH Network Lead for West Hants Primary Care Network, and has served two terms on the DNS Board of Directors. Her presidency comes at a time when she feels ready to leverage her knowledge and experience by taking on more leadership responsibilities.

“I look forward to being a voice for our profession as we strive to improve physician wellness while impacting the broader health system within which we live and work.”

Congratulations to Ian

At this year’s AGM, the NSFTA was pleased to announce Ian Gunn as the recipient of the Hank W. Blenis Technician of the Year Award. Ian graduated from MFRS in 1993 and has worked with the Department of Natural Resources until his retirement in 2025. He has also been a dedicated volunteer and held leadership roles in many organizations including the East River St Mary’s Fire Dept, Northeastern Christmas Tree Association and NSFTA. Ian exemplifies what it means to be a good forest technician in Nova Scotia, and his example has been an inspiration to many throughout his career. Congrats Ian!
