Ontario’s livestock sector depends on strong veterinary support, and the Veterinary Incentive Program (VIP) is helping build that capacity. VIP provides financial incentives to encourage newly licenced veterinarians advance their careers in food animal practice, while helping address the growing need for veterinary services in rural and underserved areas. By supporting the next generation of veterinarians, the program is strengthening animal health, on-farm biosecurity, and the long-term resilience of Ontario’s livestock industry.

Are you a new grad looking for a large animal veterinary career where you can make a real difference from day one? The Veterinary Incentive Program supports newly licensed veterinarians who choose to practice in northern and underserved Ontario communities by providing up to $50,000, distributed over five years, while helping improve access to livestock veterinary services across the province.
For recent grads and practicing vets interested in large animal, mixed animal, or rural practice, the program offers an opportunity to build experience, support producers, and establish a meaningful career in communities that need access to veterinary care.

John Barlow, MP for Foothills, Alberta and the Conservative shadow minister for agriculture, joins Jesse Hirsh for a frank and wide-ranging conversation about why Canadian agriculture keeps falling short of its potential — not for lack of talent or land or ambition, but because the political and regulatory systems that govern the sector too often operate removed from the people most directly affected by their decisions. The central question this episode wrestles with is not whether governments say they support farmers, but whether they actually listen to them before acting. Ontario produces more than 200 different food and agricultural products – and Local Food Week is the perfect time to recognize the people and businesses behind them.
Supporting local food means supporting Ontario farmers, rural communities, jobs, innovation, and a strong agri-food economy.
At AAC, we’re proud to help deliver initiatives that strengthen Ontario’s agri-food sector and support long-term growth across the industry.
This week and every week, look for Ontario-grown and Ontario-made products and celebrate the strength of local food.

Lobster, ice cream, potatoes (of course) and now AI driven Ag intelligence…It’s all on the menu in PEI! Donald Killorn, Executive Director of PEI Federation of Agriculture joins episode 27 to discuss how the Federation is positioning agriculture as a strategic sector driven by innovation and a mastery of emerging intelligence tools. The leadership skills most urgently needed in agriculture right now are not primarily agronomic, but ecological — the capacity to read complex systems, anticipate where pressure is building, and position an organization ahead of where government funding and policy will eventually land.
