Guelph Hillel is the address for Jewish campus life at the University of Guelph. We strive to bring Jews together through social, cultural, religious, and educational programs. On Israel’s Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of all who have fallen defending the State of Israel and all those whose lives were tragically taken by acts of terror.

This year, we remember especially the victims of the October 7th attacks — innocent lives lost, families shattered, and a nation united in grief.
May their memories be a blessing, and may we never forget the price of peace and the strength of resilience.

Today, on Yom HaShoah, we remember the millions of Jews murdered in the Holocaust, and we also honour the often overlooked stories of Jewish communities in North Africa.

Under N**i and Vichy rule, Jews in countries like Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya faced forced labour, antisemitic laws, deportations, and unimaginable hardship. Their stories are an essential part of Holocaust history.

We remember them. We tell their stories. We carry their legacy forward. May their memories be a blessing. 🕯️

From meaningful conversations to shared pride and learning, this week was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community and the importance of creating space for connection and identity on campus.
