October is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM).

Everyone deserves the opportunity to contribute their skills, pursue meaningful work and be recognized for what they bring to the workplace.

DEAM is a chance to celebrate the contributions of people living with disabilities while continuing the conversation about the barriers that can stand in the way of inclusive employment. Across Canada, the month brings employers, job seekers and communities together to promote more inclusive hiring and workplaces.

At Hopewell, we believe a full life includes opportunities to grow, contribute and participate in ways that are meaningful to each person. Building more inclusive workplaces is one part of creating communities where those opportunities are possible.

Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

We honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

September 30 is an important day to listen, reflect and learn about the truths and ongoing impacts of the residential school system. It’s also a reminder that reconciliation is not limited to one day.

At Hopewell, we encourage our community to continue listening to Indigenous voices, learning from Indigenous experiences and carrying that learning forward throughout the year.

There’s a lot that goes into being part of Team Hopewell, but our Coordinator Spotlight series is about getting to know the people behind the work, too.

Before we traded BBQ season for sweater weather, Stephanie Home made the most of summer with a family BBQ. ☀️🍔

Longtime and newer families came together to catch up, connect and get to know their loved ones’ housemates and families a little better.

Kasper took charge of the BBQ, families gathered around the table, stories were shared and new connections were made.

It was a simple summer afternoon, but a meaningful one: good food, good company and time spent strengthening the relationships that grow within the Stephanie Home community. 💙

Truth and reconciliation starts with listening, learning and participating.

With the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaching on September 30, there are several opportunities to learn and take part in Guelph-Wellington and online:

🧡 Guelph Museums: An evening of Indigenous and land-based teachings, activities, a sacred fire and a raptor presentation.

🧡 Centre Wellington: Hear Indigenous cultural teachings and stories, with music, dance and a presentation of traditional regalia.

🧡 National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, Online resources: Explore free educational programming and resources to help students, educators, and the broader community learn about truth and reconciliation.

We encourage our Hopewell community to explore these opportunities, participate where they can and continue learning beyond September 30.
