Igniting conversations about our world & relationships through showcasing stories of global reach & local relevance. One of the world's first documentary film festivals, The festival began as the Guelph International Film Festival in 1984. Our festival showcases international, national and local films, with visiting directors, community discussions, and an ever growing film series for children, including a new french language series. The aim is to inspire both community engagement and appreciation of the arts by connecting people with stories of global reach and local relevance.

Our Care of Community Collection explores how we show up for one another. We look at the relationships that sustain us, across generations, cultures, and communities, and ask what it means to care for one another, especially when life becomes difficult or the systems around us fall short.

Through stories of family, belonging, love, and resilience, these films remind us that community is something we create through the ways we show up, stand together, and make space for one another.

Mundurukuyü is an immensely beautiful film that is placed between myth, community, history, and land, all intersecting to provide a powerful story that asks us to look longer and feel more deeply. Catch it at Silence on Saturday, November 7th at 11:30AM!

On the banks of the Tapajós River, in the Amazon, the forest of fish women reflects Munduruku mythology, where humans, at the origin of the world, transformed into forest, plants and animals. In the daily life of the Sawre Muybu village, the spirits of the forest are not only ancestral spiritual forces, but part of the family.

Our Care of Place Collection explores land, climate, stewardship, Indigenous knowledge and belonging and considers the responsibility we carry to the places we inhabit and to the generations that will come after us.

These films invite us to look more closely at how we live with the land and with one another. Together, they explore what it means to belong somewhere, and what we owe in return.

Your voice matters, especially to those closest to you. In the upcoming film, The Dads, these fathers are stepping up and standing up for their kids and for a better world! Check out The Dads - our opening night film playing at E L Fox on November 6th at 7:15 PM followed by an engaging post-film event.

Inspired by the Emmy Award-winning short documentary of the same name (Netflix, 2023), THE DADS chronicles a community of fathers of trans and nonbinary children as they are forced to choose family over country as a powerful anti-trans agenda takes hold in the United States. Filmed over the course of a year spanning retreats in rural Maine and Minnesota, protests, family milestones, a pivotal U.S. Supreme Court decision, and the collapse of gender-affirming care for youth, THE DADS captures this national reckoning with remarkable intimacy through verité footage and interviews with the film’s main protagonists, as documented by Emmy Award-winning director and producer Luchina Fisher and executive producer Dwyane Wade. This is fatherhood as an act of radical love and resistance.

Young filmmakers, we want to see your Tiny Docs!

If you are 11 and under, submit your 1-2 minute documentary film for a chance to be screened at the Guelph Film Festival on November 8th, 2026. See your work on the big screen and celebrate your stories with us!

Are you excited about a special dish you created, do you want to tell us a story about your pet, or are you looking to share your favourite activity or hobby? These docs can be about any topic, so get creative and submit your films by October 16th at the link in our bio.

The theme for 2026, “I Am Here, Here I Am,” gives space to those who have fought to be seen and heard, while highlighting the world for which we are all custodians and caregivers. This year is all about care: care of self, care of community, care of the world around us.

The 2026 program is rooted in the idea that growth begins by showing up: for ourselves, for one another, and for the places we call home. Through film, conversation, and community-led events, we gather to listen, learn, challenge old ways of thinking, and imagine what inspired change can look like.

Our 2026 Trailer!

We are back with 9 days of documentaries from November 6th-14th.

The 2026 program is rooted in the idea that growth begins by showing up: for ourselves, for one another, and for the places we call home. Through film, conversation, and community-led events, we gather to listen, learn, challenge old ways of thinking, and imagine what inspired change can look like.

We are proud to continue Pay What You Want admission, free access for those under 30, and accessible screening spaces throughout Guelph.

From feature documentaries to Tiny Docs and a workshop for filmmakers, we look forward to lighting up screens across downtown Guelph — and beyond!

Let's get out and watch some wonderful films! And don't forget to alert the groupchat!
