Hospice Wellington is an incredible volunteer supported organization that offers exceptional care to people living with the challenges of a life-limiting illness or loss. Our care is warm, skilled, and compassionate. We are dedicated to support living every day to the fullest with dignity and meaning. Our care is in your community created and supported by your community, right here, right now -whenever you need it. All of our services are offered at no cost to the individual thanks to the generosity of our donors, government funding and the support of our community partners in Guelph and Wellington County. We are also indebted to the remarkable individuals who volunteer their time to support us in every aspect of our care. We offer a fully accessible environment and encourage visitors or clients with any specific supports that require accommodation to contact us to help facilitate accessing our services.

The 10th and Final "Ride For Matt" Funken Cruise had it's biggest year ever for fundraising!

Hospice Wellington is so proud of the efforts of the entire Funkenhauser circle of family and friends who have come together over the past 10 years to raise awareness and funds for our charity.

This year the event raised an incredible $15,446.88 through donations, the BBQ, raffles, and other fundraising. Thank you to everyone involved with this year's event.

In addition, we are pleased to announce this event has raised a total of $85,317.13 over the last 10 years.

Thank you to Sarah and Carolyn for coming in yesterday for the annual tradition of doing our cheque presentation to celebrate another successful Funken Cruise We know Matt would be so proud of everyone's efforts in celebrating his passion while giving back to your community.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the people and moments we’re grateful for, and there’s so much to appreciate in our Hospice Wellington community.

We’re grateful for the individuals and families who welcome us into their lives, the volunteers who give so generously of their time, the donors who make our care possible, the community partners who work alongside us, and the staff who show up each day with compassion and kindness.

Thank you for being part of our Circle of Care and for helping make sure people in our community feel supported and connected when it matters most.

After a loss, you may experience emotions that surprise you, or even seem to contradict each other!

You might feel:
• Anger
• Guilt
• Relief
• Anxiety
• Numbness
• Jealousy
• Even moments of joy

And you may move between them quickly, slowly, or not experience some of them at all.

There is no “right” way to grieve. Your emotions don’t need to make sense to anyone else to be valid. You can feel angry and loving at the same time. You can feel relief and still be grieving. You can miss someone deeply and still laugh.

Grief is complex because love, relationships, and loss are complex. No timeline, no checklist, and no perfect way through it.

Every generation has something to give.

This National Seniors Day, we’re celebrating the senior volunteers who share their time, wisdom and life experience with Hospice Wellington and the people we support.

Val Morrell is one of those volunteers. After retiring, she found new ways to give back, bringing her experience, compassion and willingness to listen to her work with clients and families. Her story is a beautiful reminder that volunteering can enrich both the person giving and the person receiving.

We’re also grateful for the Seniors Community Grant from the Government of Ontario, which is helping Hospice Wellington recruit and train more volunteers to support people and families throughout Wellington County.

To all of our senior volunteers: thank you for sharing your time and all that you have learned along the way. Your contribution matters.

Hospice Wellington’s Day Away Program will meet each Wednesday in October from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

The activities will include a ‘sing along’ with a hospice volunteer, St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, and some special activities for Thanksgiving and Hallowe’en. Snacks will be served each week during the opening hour, and lunch will be provided at noon.

Referrals are accepted from health care professionals, family members and friends, or individuals can contact Hospice Wellington to make their own referral.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, Hospice Wellington pauses to remember, listen and reflect.

We honour Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to live with the impacts of this history.

At Hospice Wellington, we believe Your Story Matters. Every person brings their own experiences, traditions, relationships and ways of understanding life, loss and care. We have a responsibility to listen with openness and respect, and to continue learning about the experiences of Indigenous Peoples.

Reconciliation is ongoing. It calls on each of us to learn, to listen, and to reflect on how we can build relationships grounded in respect, dignity and understanding.

Today, we remember the stories that must not be forgotten, and we recognize the importance of making space for every story to be heard.
