The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 234 – Making a Powerful Difference!

Applause and cheers for the impact being made once again by members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 234. The Legion’s Poppy Fund has invested $15,000 to purchase a new Patient Lift for the Residence to ensure the safety of the people we serve.

Hospice Wellington is just one of the local organizations supported when YOU purchased a poppy in honour of Remembrance Day and the veterans who served this country. We share our thanks!

Pride Month at Hospice Wellington

At Hospice Wellington, we believe that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and cared for, exactly as they are.

This Pride Month, we honour and celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, our clients, families, staff, volunteers, and supporters, whose stories, identities, and experiences are an important part of our Circle of Care.

Living with a life-limiting illness, caregiving, and grief are deeply personal journeys. For members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, these experiences can sometimes come with added layers of vulnerability. That’s why creating spaces of safety, dignity, and belonging is not just important, it’s essential.

At Hospice Wellington, we are committed to compassionate, inclusive care that respects every identity and every story. We strive to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed, supported, and embraced, without fear of judgment, and with the dignity they deserve.

This month, and every month, we stand with Pride.
Because care means honouring the whole person.
Because everyone belongs in the Circle.

After a long winter, many of us notice a shift when the sunlight starts returning.
Sunlight plays an important role in regulating our circadian rhythm, the internal clock that influences our sleep, energy levels, and mood. Increased exposure to natural light can help support better sleep, improve energy, and boost the production of serotonin, a chemical connected to mood and emotional wellbeing. This is why some people find indoor sun lights or sun clocks helpful in keeping their sleep schedule on track – particularly if they’re rising or falling asleep when sunlight isn’t naturally available (such as working nightshifts!).

For many people, the darker winter months can leave us feeling more fatigued, isolated, unmotivated, or emotionally heavy. This can be especially true for those experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), where reduced sunlight significantly impacts mood and daily functioning.

As spring arrives, reconnecting with sunlight, movement, fresh air, and nature can feel, well... like a breath of fresh air; grounding and restorative while also reminding us how deeply connected our mental health is to the world around us. Even if it's just for 60 seconds on your lunch break or at the beginning or your day, pause, and take a mindful breath of our spring air.
