Hope House Guelph CFC

Hope House Guelph CFC Hope House Guelph CFC operates and advocates on the belief that poverty, food insecurity, inequality, health and community are all interconnected.

We offer services and programs that challenge the stigmas surrounding poverty and allow our clients to maintain their dignity and choice, while simultaneously providing them with tactile skills developed in a community environment; it is not about a hand-out but rather offering people a hand-up, creating long-term skills that facilitate self-sufficiency. Hope House provides front-line services and

support in the form of a choice-based, points-based Food Market, Hope Stylin’ Haircuts and Clothing Bureau (points-based), our community Edu-Kitchen, Hope-in-Motion, a Back-to-School Backpack Program, a daily Café, and more to any Guelph resident (including children) living in poverty. We have also formed close partnerships with community members to offer services beyond our mandate in partnership with like-minded groups.

Right now, one of our most critically needed but least donated items is underwear. Staying clean and comfortable is a matter of basic dignity, and we are running low on these essentials.

If you have any brand new, unpackaged underwear to spare, or if you are able to pick up an extra pack during your next shopping trip, please consider donating. Your contribution will make a direct impact on someone's daily comfort and well-being.

Can't donate items right now? A simple share goes a long way in helping us meet this critical need.

The heat is officially kicking in!

With the sun beating down, we need your help to keep our community safe and cool. If you have any to spare, we are collecting donations of sun hats and sunglasses!

Prolonged sun exposure can be dangerous, and a simple hat or pair of shades makes a world of difference for someone spending their days outdoors.

Can't donate physical items? Consider sharing this post to help us spread the word! Let’s look out for one another.

WE ARE 65% OF THE WAY THERE!

We have officially hit 65% of our goal, and there is only one week left in our Empower Hope Spring Fundraiser! We are in the homestretch, and we need your help to cross the finish line.

To help us get there, an anonymous donor has generously offered to MATCH all donations up to $4,000 from June 3rd to June 10th! That means whatever you give today will have DOUBLE the impact.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already supported us and gotten us to 65%. Your generosity allows us to provide vital, ongoing support to our community's most vulnerable adults, youth, and children.

Here is what your doubled donation helps us cross off the list:
- Food Market: Funding peanut butter for 2,200 households over 10 weeks ($10,000).
- Community Backpack Program: Providing lined paper to 2,000 students this fall for equal education ($5,000).
- Dignity-Based Services: Moving 14 people off our counselling waitlist and helping 20 individuals thrive in music therapy ($10,000).

Whether you can give $10, $25, or $250, your gift goes twice as far right now. Let's push past 65% and reach 100% together!

Community Spotlight: Celebrating Heather, Volunteer of the Month!

An organization is only as strong as its volunteers, and for the past two years, Heather has been the backbone of so much of what we do at Hope House.

Heather’s connection to us goes back years, having lived next door to Jaya James. After retiring two years ago, she transitioned from a Better Food Co. customer to a hands-on volunteer, eventually joining the Advisory Committee and pitching in across the Café, Food Market, and our seasonal markets.

Heather’s favourite part of the job? The community. She beautifully notes that Hope House provides a unique space where people can find food, holiday gifts, a warm drink, and most importantly, the human connection that can be so hard to find elsewhere.

Her ability to make everyone feel welcomed is a gift to us all. Thank you, Heather, for your dedication to serving up dignity, belonging, and empowerment!

This week we’re talking about building a balanced meal on a budget! Meals don’t have to be complicated or expensive to include important nutrients. Even something simple like a baguette pizza can include grains, protein, and vegetables. Our baguette pizza recipe averages to around 10 dollars. Try using leftover veggies or toppings you already have at home to make it your own. What’s your favourite pizza topping?

At Hope House Guelph, we believe in Belonging, Dignity, and Empowerment. This spring, we are reaching out to our incredible community to help us hit our $25,000 spring fundraising goal.

Demand is rising, but with your support, we can break down barriers. Here is exactly how your donation changes lives:

Nourishment: Provides a 10-week supply of peanut butter to 2,200 households.

Education: Equalizes opportunities for 2,000 students with essential school supplies.

Mental Health: Moves 14 individuals off our counseling waitlist.

Connection: Heals deep isolation for 20 people through 12 weeks of Music Therapy.

As one participant shared, our programs give them "a reason to get up... and talk to others when I would normally stay at home.” >
Let's keep our community strong and independent. Please consider making a gift today.
