The Way We Talk About Substance Use Matters

Stigma creates silence. It pushes people away from help, isolates them, and reinforces shame. Support, on the other hand, opens doors, it tells people they are seen, valued, and worthy of care.

Drug Poisoning Awareness Day calls for more honest, compassionate conversations about substance use. It asks us to see people, not labels. To listen without judgment. To lead with empathy.

When we choose care over criticism, we create safer spaces for people to seek help, and that’s how we save lives.

Join us for Drug Poisoning Awareness Day & show support, not stigma.

The unregulated drug supply remains unpredictable and toxic, and drug poisonings continue to affect individuals, families, and the broader community. Many people have been impacted through their own experiences, the loss of someone they love, or supporting someone who uses substances.

Drug Poisoning Awareness Day is held annually in alignment with International Overdose Awareness Day. In 2026, community events will take place in Mount Forest on August 20th and in Guelph on August 27th.

Join us Aug 20th and/or Aug 27th raise awareness and inspire action to reduce harms, remember community members we have lost, and advocate for health-focused policies and services in Guelph and Wellington County.
