150 for Change

150 for Change We are a team of students and alumni of the BAS program at UoGuelph who are passionate about global education learning opportunities!

Our team is a group of students committed to raising funds and awareness for global access to education. To do so, we have partnered with the Rumie Initiative (www.rumie.org), a local, non-profit organization that supplies learning tablets powered by solar energy to communities in the Global South. These tablets are cost efficient, environmentally friendly and loaded with educational resources thr

ough an online database. We are funding the cost of these tablets for a high school community in Tanzania, Africa and are working with local high schools, teachers and professionals here in Guelph to find relevant content to load onto the tablets. We are focused on encouraging literacy, empowerment and sustainability alongside uploading resources that coincide with the Tanzanian curriculum. To raise awareness about our project and show our commitment to education for all, our team will climb Mount Kilimanjaro this December and January, spending New Year’s on the mountain, before delivering the tablets to a local high school in Tanzania. In light of 2017 bringing the 150th anniversary of Confederation for Canada, and in acknowledgment of how much we as Canadians can contribute to and learn from other countries, we have named our project ‘150 for Change’.

Congrats to the 150 for Change team for their successful summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro! We had a blast in Tanzania, and we couldn't have done it without the help of all of you! It was an amazing journey in the making, and incredible to see what a year's worth of hard work can accomplish!

The personal challenge we took on of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but the visit to the Cheti school was by far the highlight of the trip. Meeting the kids, touring the school, and seeing just how all of our hard work and your donations are going to positively impact the lives of those students was much more rewarding than the view from the top.

Again, we'd like to give a huge THANK-YOU to everyone who supported us on our journey in one way or another, and we will be sure to keep you posted with updates on the school and what 150 for Change is up to next!

It's hard to believe in just one week our Kili Climbers will be on their way to Tanzania on their big adventure! A huge, huge, thank-you goes out to everyone who's supported us so far, with all your help we've successfully raised over $17,000! No cash to give? That's okay! Share our page to spread the word, and start looking for friends to bring to our Boston Pizza fundraiser next Thursday Nov. 3rd from 5-7pm at Boston Pizza. All you have to do is order, and we get 10% of the bill! It's a night out you can feel good about!

Thank you so much to those who have shown their support for 150 For Change by sharing our page, checking out our website and of course donating. We've hit our first milestone by reaching over 150 likes on this page (yay!). And we are proud to update you all that we are SO close to hitting our second milestone of reaching $10,000 in donations! We still have a long way to go until we reach $30,000, but we feel so proud to be apart of a community that is so supportive of 150 For Change and Rumie's initiative.
