Our final Evenings with History lecture for the 2025-26 series is Tuesday, April 7th. Learn all about the NEW Guelph Public Library Archives, including the Robert Munsch collection. Doors open 6:30, followed by our AGM at 7:00. Lecture at 7:30 pm.

Have you ever heard the legend of "Old Man Orval"? Any Guelphite who has ever spent a night at Barber Scout camp probably has a different version of the ghost story. Tell us your version here. Then come out to our our Feb 3 Historical Society lecture to hear the REAL STORY. Speaker Paul Langan has researched extensively and written a book about the mysterious person behind the Old Man Orval legend. 7:30 pm at the Guelph Civic Museum.

We are excited to have Guest Speaker and Author Don Mikel as our lecturer for the first Evenings with History lecture of the 2025-26 series. Topic: Canadian Architectural Styles: A Field Guide. Don will take us on a cross-country journey spanning almost 400 years of Canadian architecture, including sites in Guelph. Our AGM will take place at 7:00 pm, followed by Evenings with History. REMINDER!
Join us on Thursday, March 20 at the Guelph Civic Museum from 6:30-8:30 p.m for Military Lecture: Gunner City: Military Presence in Guelph. Lieutenant-Colonel Miguel Ortiz-Sosa, the commanding officer of Guelph’s 11th Field Regiment, is our guest speaker.

In times of conflict, Guelph and Wellington County responded to the call of collective defense every time. Lt. Col. Ortiz-Sosa will illustrate the history of the 11th Field Regiment which is the institutional representation of the Canadian Armed Forces in the city. He will illustrate the different operations in which, through the Canadian Forces, the citizens of Guelph and Wellington County have defended their nation. He will also touch on the current operations in which our citizens are making significant contributions on behalf of Canada in the international arena.
