Happy Friday from Ranju and Your Friends at J.O.E.!

Week after week, Ranju keeps us smiling while sharing thoughtful reminders about the world around us.

This week, he's helping us celebrate World Environment Day!

As Ranju suggests, there are lots of simple ways to get involved — plant a tree, help clean up a local park, pick up litter in your neighbourhood, or spend some time appreciating nature.

Every small action can make a difference. 🌎

Have a wonderful weekend!

J.O.E. (Jobs Opportunities Enterprise) is incredibly grateful to have received an honorarium from Food Uniting Neighbours (f.u.n.) recognizing the dedication, contributions, and rightful place in the workforce of adults with developmental exceptionalities.

This support and acknowledgment will help J.O.E. continue our programming and provide fair-wage employment opportunities for adults with developmental exceptionalities in our community.

A special spotlight to Connie, Talia, and Susie for their employment with J.O.E. at f.u.n. Fridays. Each week they show up with strength, kindness, and reliability in their roles, contributing to the magic that takes place every Friday in the program and community space.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Zach, Nassaym, Jasmine, Lori-Anne, and the entire f.u.n. team for their continued partnership, encouragement, and belief in inclusive employment and community collaboration.

J.O.E. is truly honoured to be part of f.u.n. Fridays and to witness the magic of the space each week — a space rooted in dignity, belonging, nourishment, and connection.

Food Uniting Neighbours (f.u.n.) is a co-design project based at Shelldale Community Centre focused on improving food access in the Onward Willow neighbourhood. Through community collaboration, weekly meals, access to affordable food, and connections to local supports, f.u.n. continues to build a welcoming and inclusive environment where community members can gather, contribute, and thrive together.

We are grateful to be part of this work and excited to continue growing alongside such an incredible community.

Susie's Creative Corner – Mother's Day Special 🌸

Before May ends, we want to share a sneak peek into the next Susie’s Creative Corner segment which is a Mother's Day extravaganza!

Susie created a beautiful bouquet completely on her own! 💐
She carefully selected each flower, arranged them artistically in her vase, and proudly presented her creation straight from the heart.

The love, thoughtfulness, and creativity that went into this special gift made it truly one of a kind.

Great job, Susie! We love seeing your creativity shine through expressions of love✨

True sportsmanship, confidence, and community in action. ❤️ Susie proudly represented her team by leading the Athlete’s Oath at the University of Guelph for the Special Olympics Tournament.

A beautiful reminder of what it means to be brave in the attempt. 🌟

🏀✨ Susie’s Creative Corner
From the dance floor to the court.

The last weekend in April was filled with energy, creativity, and community as Susie participated in two activities she loves most — Zumba and Special Olympics Basketball.

The weekend began with Jersey Day at Zumba Class at Willow Road School, where Susie expressed herself through music, movement, and creative outfits. Since she couldn’t choose just one favourite jersey, she proudly layered multiple throughout the class while dancing and showing her amazing spirit 💃🎽

The following day, Susie participated in the Hometown Games Special Olympics Basketball Tournament at the University of Guelph, where she was honoured to represent her team during the Opening Ceremonies by leading the Athlete’s Oath:

“Let me win. But if I do not win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

Wearing her personalized Special Olympics hoodie, Susie brought confidence, teamwork, and determination onto the court — passing, defending, scoring baskets, and celebrating alongside her teammates throughout the tournament. 🏀

From Zumba to basketball, and from creativity to sportsmanship, Susie brought joy and passion into every moment while showing the true spirit of inclusion, friendship, and community. 💫

This week, we are sending love, prayers, and our deepest sympathies to Ranju, Pam, and the entire Arneja family during this difficult time. 💙

Ranju’s weekly jokes will be paused until further notice as we take this time to support and stand beside the family.

Thank you for keeping them in your hearts and thoughts.

🌟 Last f.u.n. Friday highlights! 🌟

What an incredible workday with our J.O.E. team!

At the food-serving station, Connie and Talia showed amazing teamwork as they continued to build their skills and confidence. From serving desserts and fresh bread to fruit and veggie salads, they were right there across the table, connecting with the community, sharing meals, and bringing smiles to familiar faces we see every week.

Over at the SEED table, Susie was bagging orders, chatting with customers, and doing what she does best—bringing warmth and positivity to every interaction.
We’re proud of her growing independence: last week
she was putting away order bins with Emily, and this week she did it ALL BY HERSELF! What a huge step forward!

Weeks like this remind us how much growth, confidence, and connection happen in real time. So proud of the progress we see every Friday from our J.O.E. team 💛

Ranju has been doing an incredible job at The SEED Warehouse on Thursdays! Through his role, he continues to build strong, hands-on skills and grow in confidence each week.

Ranju navigates the warehouse space, moving carts filled with order bins from the fridge to the pickup area, where he helps ensure everything is ready to go. You’ll often find him right at the front, greeting people with a smile and helping them receive their orders.

He also supports the team by returning empty carts to their designated areas, stacking and organizing grocery bins, and assisting customers by locating their orders and helping with bagging.

Ranju’s growing independence, teamwork, and positive attitude make a meaningful impact every shift. We’re so proud of all he continues to accomplish!

At J.O.E., we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work, contribute, and belong — and Ranju is a great example of that in action 💙
