Last month we had the pleasure of meeting Mike “O’dah ziibing” Ashkewe ✨

Mike is a local author and activist, who generously donated his books to our library! Writing Indigenous, non-binary and q***r characters across eras and timelines, Mike writes for Star Trek Adventures the Table Top Role Playing Game—increasing representation of q***r stories.

Thanks so much Mike! Stop by OOTS to check out his books!

Myles will cover topics like pronoun use, the difference between gender identity and sexuality, and will break down the meaning and history of what 2SLGBTQIA+ means. You will learn practical ways you can make changes within your business or organization to make it a safer environment for everyone!

Myles does all this through storytelling, creating a safe space for everyone to ask uncomfortable questions and teaching from their lived experience as a sober HIV-positive non-binary person.

📢Please Read: A Message to our Community Regarding Community Safety

We are not alone.
We are not new to this.
And we are not going anywhere.

We've shared a community statement with practical tips, supports, and information about how we're responding to recent targeted activity around 2SLGBTQIA+ events and spaces.

While this isn't how we'd choose to begin Pride Month, Pride has always been rooted in standing up for our communities, our rights, and one another.

We are aware of activity being planned around the Pride flag raising and are working collaboratively with community partners and stakeholders to help ensure the event remains safe, welcoming, and focused on celebration.

If you plan to attend, we encourage you to take a moment to read the section on responding to in-person incidents. Often, the most effective response is not engagement, but focusing on supporting one another, celebrating our community, and not providing opportunities for conflict or online content.

You can also find resources related to de-escalation, community safety, and responding to difficult situations on the Out on the Shelf website under the Resources section.

We would love to see our community show up, support one another, and celebrate together.

Most importantly, this will not distract us from what Pride is truly about: community, resistance, belonging, and Q***r joy.

We look forward to celebrating with you throughout Pride Month.

Take a moment to read, share, and look out for one another. 💚🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
