When Ellridge needed a new home for its resident workshop, our Guelph community stepped up!

Thanks to the incredible volunteers at Diyode Community Workshop, a new space for residents to build, create and enjoy hands-on hobbies has come to life.

From planning and design to construction and installation, Diyode generously shared their time, skills and expertise to make it happen.

We recently celebrated the workshops official opening, another wonderful addition to Ellridge amenities alongside its enhanced games room and gym.

A heartfelt thank you to Diyode for helping us create a space that supports the interests, independence and passions of the people who call Ellridge home!

3, 2, 1… Launch! 🚀

The Diyode Rocket Program spent the month on the road, bringing our air-powered rockets to the WaterlooMakerFaire Praise the Ward the Friends of Friends Connection EXPO, the Optimist Club of Guelph Annual Bazaar. Everyone who stopped by our table got to design and decorated their own rockets, before loading them onto the launch pad, and sending them soaring.

Thank you to all the organizers for having us, to every engineer who counted down with us and to our volunteers who made it all possible! From last minute features and fixes to the rocket program, pre-making rocket tubes, printing whistling rocket caps, helping set up, build and launch rockets on the day of. It wouldn’t have happened without you!

Sparks after sundown! ⚡🔥

Our welding and grinding workshop took hot work outside for an evening of stick welding, angle grinding, and a lot of first beads laid down by members who’d never struck an arc before! Everyone suited up in the full kit (helmets, gloves, jackets) and left with a new skillset and endless metallic potential!

Huge thanks to Jackie Morris & Will Inkley for leading the session, everyone of our members who helped prepare the metal shop and make this workshop possible and to everyone who came out and made some welds as the sun went down!

More metalworking to come! Keep an eye on our website’s events page and as we continue to work on our metal shop!

There’s something so satisfying about watching people light up their own circuit for the first time.

Last week we got together for our Electronics & Soldering workshop, and everyone left with their very own hand-built 3×3×3 LED cube. Lots of concentration, some laughs, and that unmistakable glow when the LEDs finally flicker on.

So proud of everyone who came out and built their cubes in record time! Massive thanks to kait sullivan and Cliff Gates for leading the workshop

🔧🔩 Plumbing, home repair, and a whole lot of learning!

A huge thank you to Dano Halayko for bringing 30+ years of experience as a Master Plumber to our Skill Forge workshops and sharing his knowledge with us!
We learned the basics of pipe fitting, different piping materials, proper glue up, common home plumbing setups and devices, all while building our own phone amplifiers to keep the tunes going!

Dano was an absolute natural at teaching, and we can’t wait to have him back for another workshop!
Thanks to everyone who came out, got their hands dirty, and learned something new. 🛠️
