Legal doesn't mean moral.

Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's right.

Throughout history, laws have permitted grave injustices. Legality is not the measure of morality.

Abortion is the human rights violation of our time. More than 100,000 preborn children lose their lives to abortion each year in Canada. Every abortion ends the life of a unique and living human being—someone who deserved the same protection and dignity as every other member of the human family.

The question is not whether abortion is legal.

The question is whether innocent human beings deserve human rights.

Every life matters.

Every child has value, no matter the circumstances. Being “unwanted” doesn’t take away their humanity.

Some people compare a preborn child to a parasite — but that’s not only scientifically inaccurate, it’s deeply dehumanizing.

A parasite is an organism that lives off a host of a different species, benefiting at the host’s expense. A preborn child does not fit that definition. A baby in the womb is not a foreign organism or an invader; they are a developing human being, the natural result of human reproduction, with their own unique DNA.

Unlike parasites, preborn children are the same species as their mother and exist in a biological relationship specifically designed to support growth and development. The mother’s body undergoes remarkable changes during pregnancy to nurture and protect her child, and the placenta is an organ that facilitates this connection.

Dependence does not make someone a parasite. Newborns, infants, and young children are also completely dependent on others for survival, yet no one would call them parasites.

Every human being begins life in the womb. Preborn children are not parasites—they are human beings with inherent dignity and worth, deserving of the same respect and protection as every other member of the human family.

Humanity is not conditional. No child should be labeled disposable because of the way they were conceived. Every life matters.

A person's worth is not determined by their circumstances. Every child is a gift, deserving of dignity, love, and the chance to thrive.

Is a preborn child a human being?

Yes.

This is supported in biological literature that identifies fertilization as the beginning of a human life. In a survey of biologists across 1,058 academic institutions, 96% agreed that human life begins at fertilization (Jacobs, 2023).

From that point forward, a new, distinct, living human organism exists—developing continuously through every stage of growth.

By biological definition, where human life begins, a human being is present.

A disability does not make someone less human.
A diagnosis does not determine someone’s worth.

Every child—regardless of ability, condition, or prognosis—is a human being deserving of dignity, protection, and love.

Compassion should never mean ending a life because it may be difficult, imperfect, or dependent.

Human value is not based on health or ability. It is inherent.

A woman has rights over her own body.
But pregnancy involves more than one body.

From fertilization, a new and distinct human life exists—with unique DNA, its own development, and its own biological identity.

The pro-life position is not about controlling women. It's about recognizing that abortion affects two humans: the woman and her preborn baby; not just the woman herself.

Introducing our new debate series!

Over the next few days, we’ll be responding to common arguments used to support abortion and examining them through the reality that preborn babies are human beings deserving of human rights and protection.

Science shows that a separate human life is created at conception, complete with their own unique set of DNA. S*x, eye-color, hair-color and other traits are determined at conception. Babies develop incredibly quickly inside the womb. By the time a women even finds out that she is pregnant (usually 3 or 4 weeks from conception), her baby’s heart is already beating (CS-9 stage) (Männer, J. 2022).

Same baby. Same life. Same value.
The only difference is time and location.

A baby doesn’t become human by passing through the birth canal. They are already alive, already growing, and already unique long before birth.

So what changes their value?
What gives a newborn the right to life that they supposedly did not have moments earlier in the womb?

We do not determine human worth based on age, size, location, or level of dependence after birth—so why before birth?

Human rights begin when human life begins. Every innocent human being, born or preborn, deserves the right to life and protection from intentional killing.
