Today is Cyber Monday and we hope that everyone remains cautious while doing their online shopping. Some common types of scams that can occur today are Phishing Scams through emails that may appear from legitimate retailers enticing you to click on links. Credit Card fraud is also very common as cybercriminals may attempt to steal your credit card information by intercepting payment details during online transactions. Gift Card scams are also extremely common fraudsters may sell fake or used gift cards at discounted rates, where buyers can end up with non-functional or empty gift cards. Finally, amount takeovers are extremely common where hackers target amounts on commerce websites attempting to gain access to your account and card information.

Some ways to protect yourself are using secure websites, having strong account passwords, regularly monitoring your account statements, and verifying the website's deals and legitimacy.

We hope everyone has a safe Cyber Monday!

Project Lifesaver Guelph Wellington helps families protect members who may wander. Typically, these are people living with Alzheimer’s, autism, Down’s Syndrome, acquired brain injury or other types of cognitive impairment.

The way Project Lifesaver operates is by equipping individuals with a 1-ounce wrist transmitter that sends a radio signal which can be tracked up to a 2-kilometer radius. The system operates 24/7, 365 days a year. When notified by caregivers that an individual has gone missing, specially trained police officers use mobile tracking equipment to locate the missing individual.

- We currently have 36 active clients within Guelph and Wellington County
- The average search time is 26 minutes
- We have provided support to 230 clients since the program started in 2011

Caretakers are responsible for checking the battery daily and filling out daily log sheets.
