Wow — what an incredible evening for BPW Greater Sudbury!
We were thrilled to welcome a couple of prospective members who joined us tonight, as they explore becoming part of our amazing network of women supporting women.
We also officially welcomed our newest members — Sandi Emdin and Joan Strawn, welcomed back returning member Laura Bancroft, as well as Marla Bouffard, who has joined our executive team as Secretary. We’re so excited to have you all as part of our BPW family! 💛
Our president, Céline Tremblay, opened the meeting by sharing some of the exciting initiatives we’ve been working on behind the scenes — from building stronger onboarding processes and member communication tools, to refreshing our mission and creating more meaningful opportunities for engagement.
She also reminded us of the core purpose and values of BPW: empowering women professionally and personally, advocating for equality, and building lifelong connections that help us all grow.
We had a wonderful discussion about the many different motivations for joining BPW — from professional development and mentorship, to community involvement and connection — and how each reason is equally valuable and important.
The highlight of the evening was our guest speaker, Dr. Patricia Orozco, professor at Laurentian University. Patricia took us through her remarkable journey — from becoming a self-made entrepreneur at just 14 years old in Mexico, to her move to Sudbury and the incredible impact she’s made here in our community.
Making meaningful strides is never easy, but seeing someone do it with such heart, perseverance, and grace — especially as an immigrant — reminds us what true leadership and resilience look like.
This is what BPW is all about: collaboration, shared perspectives, and continuous reminders of the incredible women who make up our community.
We enjoyed great food from the Caruso Club, had inspiring conversations and left refuelled with ambition and a renewed sense of connection
