How well do we know the Vintage Seniors in our communities?

I am often surprised to hear their stories - the adventures they have been on, the foundations they have laid, the lives they have touched and the situations that have shaped who they are today.

At FaithWorks Ministries, we believe it is important to know the people who are, in one way or another, part of our history. For this reason, we are inspired by seniors month to begin regular posts highlighting the 'Vintage Seniors' in Muskoka.

The word vintage refers to something (someone) being of a certain time period, and being of great value and worth. As someone who has dedicated their ministry to working with vintage seniors, I believe the word 'vintage' suits our older senior population perfectly, for they certainly are of great value to our communities.

Our first 'Muskoka Vintage Senior' is Debbie Thomson, who was recently elected to the resident's council at Muskoka Shores. Debbie's authentic love for people and desire to get to know them will serve the residents well. She participates in most of the activities offered, and has encouraged me to bring in our 'Plant Medic Clinic' to repot and refresh the resident's many plants.

We accept clothing and household items, books, small furniture pieces, lawn and garden items, etc.

Did you know . . . Saturdays tend to be one of the quieter days of the week in retirement communities? So what better day to visit a friend or family member!
This Saturday, June 6th, FaithWorks will be hosting a Pop-Up Market at The Gravenhurst Manor from 1:30-3:00. Come out and visit with family and friends, while supporting the work of FaithWorks Ministries.
The mission of FaithWorks is to build relationships with the Vintage Senior population, while addressing their spiritual, physical, and emotional needs. We have several programs aimed at fulfilling this mission, including these new markets.

Hard to keep up with Vintage Seniors 🙃

This jam has proven to be a senior favourite, so luckily the spring crop of rhubarb is ready.
Last year, with your help, we gave 103 bottles of free jam to vintage seniors in the community. This year we are aiming to give away 200 bottles.
Jams can be purchased at one of our local Senior's Pop-Up Markets (next one is at the Gravenhurst Manor on Saturday June 6th from 1:30-3:00pm) or by calling the office at 705-644-0259.

Pop-Up Market at Granite Ridge Retirement Community on Bethune Drive. Saturday May 30th, 1:30 - 3:00pm.
The long awaited Rhubarb Delight Jam has returned for the season. Buy a 250ml bottle of jam and we will give a 125ml bottle to a senior. Last year we gave away 103 bottles of jam/jelly/marmalade. THIS YEAR WE ARE AIMING TO GIVE AWAY 200 BOTTLES, with your help, that is . . . Come on out for a visit - find a treasure - buy a bottle of jam - and take home some of your favourite baked goods.

During the month of May, we are looking at Abraham & Sarah's story as part of our senior worship services.
Many vintage seniors face tough decisions regarding selling their homes, moving closer to family, moving to a retirement community, or moving in with family.
God promised to bless this vintage couple, and that they themselves would be a blessing.
Change can be emotionally challenging, especially letting go of the familiar for something unfamiliar, yet we can trust God to bless us, and in our new environment, we can be a blessing to others.

It was wonderful meeting some of the leadership team from Living Faith Bible Church, Orleans, ON and we wish them God's richest blessings as they share the Good News in their community. They even come with matching shirts!
