Partner Spotlight: Community Futures Grande Prairie & Region

One of the things we've learned throughout this project is that good ideas get better when you have the right people around the table.

Community Futures Grande Prairie & Region has been one of those people.

While they won't have a physical space inside the building, they've been part of many of the conversations behind the scenes as The Blue Building Project has taken shape.

For more than 40 years, Community Futures has been helping entrepreneurs and small business owners across our region start businesses, grow them, navigate challenges, and take their next step.

Sometimes that support looks like financing. Sometimes it's mentorship, training, resources, or simply having someone to help work through an idea. They're the kind of organization that helps turn "this could be something" into a plan.

That matters because projects like this are really a collection of people building things. Businesses, products, events, ideas, and opportunities.

The vendors, producers, artists, food businesses, and community partners that make up The Blue Building Project all benefit from having strong support around them, and Community Futures has been helping provide that support in our region for decades.

We're grateful to have Community Futures Grande Prairie & Region as part of The Blue Building Project and excited for all the people, ideas, and opportunities that are still waiting to walk through the door.

We're creating more opportunities for people to discover local businesses, artists, makers, and creators. The Little Blue Market is a weekly vendor program inside The Blue Building Project.

Vendors choose a dedicated day each week, have access to on-site storage, and become a consistent part of the downtown experience. It's designed for artists, makers, growers, food producers, retail pop-ups, product launches, and local businesses looking for a simple way to connect with customers and showcase their work.

Not every business or maker needs a full-time storefront. For some, The Little Blue Market is a chance to take the next step with something they've been working on or creating. For others, it's a flexible way to have a downtown presence, reach new customers, and grow an established business without the commitment of a permanent retail space.

If you're interested in learning more about vendor opportunities, availability, and how the program works, email [email protected]

People often ask why it's called The Blue Building Project.

The Blue Building part is pretty straightforward. The Project part started as a working title. When we first started construction "The Blue Building Project" was simply what we called it because, at the time, it really was a project. We always assumed we'd come up with a real name eventually. The funny thing is that the more we worked on it, the harder it became to imagine calling it anything else.

Somewhere along the way, "Project" started to mean something different. What we like about the word project is that the best ones are never built by just one person. They're shaped by the people, ideas, and opportunities that become part of them along the way.

From the beginning, the goal was never just to renovate a building. The building was a starting point. What excited us was the possibility of the people, ideas, businesses, and experiences it could bring together. The most exciting part is that we know that's still only the beginning.

So the name stuck.

We're in the thick of finishing the construction side of things and can't wait to share the space with you. While we don't have an official opening date to announce just yet, we're getting closer every day and look forward to opening our doors as soon as we can.

Partner Spotlight: Harmony's Way Family Farm

Not every business starts in a storefront.

Some start on a family farm.

For decades, Harmony's Way Family Farm has been growing alongside the family behind it. What began with a handful of animals and a dream of making farming a bigger part of life has grown into a multi-generational farm serving families across the Peace Region.

Along the way, they've stayed committed to raising food thoughtfully, producing quality products, and doing things with care. Today, Harmony's Way is known for naturally raised beef, lamb, pork, free-range eggs, and handcrafted products that reflect generations of experience and hard work.

As The Blue Building Project comes together, we're excited to have Harmony's Way bringing a little bit of the farm to downtown Grande Prairie.

Partner Spotlight: Grain Bin Brewing Company

Every project needs people willing to take a chance on an idea.

Grain Bin Brewing Company has been doing that for years.

While they're known for making beer, some of their most meaningful work has come from the community built around the brewery. Through events, collaborations, fundraisers, live music, and countless conversations shared around a table, they've created opportunities for people to connect.

In many ways, those same ideas helped inspire The Blue Building Project.

As the project continues to take shape, we're excited to have Grain Bin Brewing Company as part of it.

Partner Spotlight: Dana Gough, Chef of Comfort & Chaos Kitchen

When we started thinking about the kinds of businesses we wanted to see in The Blue Building Project, one thing was clear: Great food had to be part of it.

For Chef Dana Gough, that next chapter is Comfort & Chaos Kitchen.
With more than 20 years of experience as a Red Seal Chef, Dana has built a reputation for creating memorable food and experiences throughout the Peace Region. Now she's bringing that experience to a new venture at The Blue Building Project.

Comfort & Chaos Kitchen is exactly what it sounds like, a menu inspired by the comfort foods people keep coming back for, mixed with the creativity, fun, and occasional chaos that comes from a chef who isn't afraid to try something new.

Some dishes will feel familiar. Some might surprise you. That's kind of the point.

We'll be sharing more about Comfort & Chaos Kitchen as things continue to take shape, but we couldn't be happier to see this new venture coming to life at The Blue Building Project.

Partner Spotlight: A Counter Full

Sometimes the best business ideas start with a simple question:

"Why don't we have one of those in GP?"

For Jeanie, that moment happened during a visit to a small cheese shop while travelling through the Yukon. What started as a memorable experience became an idea, and eventually A Counter Full.

Soon, visitors to The Blue Building Project will be able to discover thoughtfully selected cheeses, attend tastings, learn about pairings, and maybe leave with a new favourite they weren't expecting to find.

We love that A Counter Full is creating the kind of experience that encourages people to slow down, explore, and discover something new.

That's exactly the kind of business we hoped would find a home here.

We're excited to welcome A Counter Full to The Blue Building Project.

Partner Spotlight: The Liminal Place Cafe

One of the most exciting parts of The Blue Building Project is getting to share the building with people who care deeply about creating spaces that feel welcoming, thoughtful, and connected.

That makes The Liminal Place Cafe a pretty perfect fit.

Liminal Place has already become known in Grande Prairie as more than just a stop for specialty coffee, espresso, cold brew, nitro on tap, and baked goods. It is the kind of cafe built around conversation, community, and taking a moment to actually settle in.

As The Blue Building Project comes together, we are excited to have Liminal Place as part of the mix. They bring the same things we hope this building becomes known for: good products, good people, creative energy, and a space where the community can gather.

We will be sharing more about each of the businesses joining the building over the next little while, but we could not think of a better place to start.

Welcome to The Blue Building Project, Liminal Place.

Back in February, we shared a conceptual drawing of the building.

Since then, a lot has happened! The project has gone from drawings and ideas to something you can see taking shape in downtown Grande Prairie.

And somewhere along the way, the working title stuck.

So it feels like the right time to officially introduce ourselves.

Welcome to The Blue Building Project.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing progress updates, introducing some of the businesses, artists, and people involved, and giving you a closer look at what's taking shape.

We're not quite ready to open the doors yet, but we're getting closer. Coming this summer!
