Margaret Edgson Manor was Opened in 2005 originally and has been through more than its share of trials and tribulations but always perseveres to serve the community again. MEM shows some of the same resilience and strength as the disabled community. Back in its day MEM was a model to the Governments of what Non-profits can do. It had 16 Accessible suits and 54 affordable units long before this type of mixed housing existed.
Summer should be a busy time if all goes along as we expect. Stay tuned!

Good Morning GP! It looks like it is time to shingle the roof soon, if the ice and rain ever stop 😃 By the looks of the forecast the rain and snow are taking a bit of a break for the next few days.

It feels cozy getting a roof put up on MEM, like a warm blanket on a cool morning. There's is a long way to go but we are all excited to see progress with a new and improved roof built to better withstand the spread of fire and meet new regulations.

Big News!
We Are Raising the Roof on Margaret Edgson Manor!
The volunteer Board of the Grande Prairie Residential Society is pleased to share real progress toward the rebuilding of Margaret Edgson Manor following the devastating fire of June 2025. With the selective demolition phase now fully concluded, the building stands stripped to its bare studs.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the exceptional team at Terrace Construction, whose dedication and skill have kept the project advancing steadily through extremely challenging winter conditions. Their work has been instrumental in bringing us to this important milestone.
The structure has been thoroughly assessed and repaired where necessary so that the roof can go on. At the same time the new permanent roof is rising, which is designed to meet the most current Alberta building codes and engineered to withstand our northern climate. The sight of this emerging roof represents not only technical achievement but also the promise of renewed shelter for those who call this place home.
Mold remediation remains ongoing as a critical priority. The entire building will undergo thorough inspection and rigorous testing by qualified experts before any reconstruction plans proceed.
As we move forward into the next phase of planning the rebuild, we will be ensuring Margaret Edgson Manor complies with all updated building codes and standards. This work will be led by a Project Management team, working closely with the Board and respected professionals in engineering and architecture.
As a registered non-profit organization with charitable donation status, the Grande Prairie Residential Society welcomes any contributions toward the rebuilding effort. Every gesture of support helps bring us closer to restoring accessible, affordable housing for future tenants.
The Board remains deeply grateful for the understanding and encouragement of our community as we continue this vital work.
