Tours keep rolling in as the school year winds down for grades K to 2 in our communities. We've completed 13 tours this year from schools around the city at all 3 GPFD fire stations. The kids love it, the firefighters love it and its a fun field trip experience for everyone.

Let us know what your child thought of their trip to the firehall this year 🚒 🧑‍🚒

Last week our training branch ran all four Platoons through semi-annual RIT training at the Westgate fire station training center.

Rapid Intervention Training (RIT) or Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) training teaches firefighters how to locate, assess, and safely rescue downed, trapped, or disoriented colleagues in dangerous fire and smoke-filled environments.

Training this year gave a focus to extricating downed firefighters through standard basement windows and second storey windows. Our own emergencies can happen anywhere in a burning building and we make sure we're prepared for as many variables as possible.

We are honored to present a cheque for $8,314.77 to the Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation!

Our local firefighters are always on the front lines protecting us, but through their charitable foundation, their care extends far beyond emergency calls. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to support citizens in times of acute crisis, fund local youth programs, and provide a safety net for families facing unexpected hardships right here in the city.

Because the Grande Prairie community showed up in such a massive way this McHappy Day, these dedicated first responders will have even more resources to give back to the community they protect every day. Every dollar raised helps them deliver immediate, local impact where it is needed most.

Thank you for helping us support the heroes who support us!

Our 2026 recruit class began training on May 19th. The 3 newest firefighters at the GPFD will go through 7 weeks of recruit training so they are ready for operations and Platoon assignments in July.

Last week they took part in rope rescue training and were introduced to rappelling at our Westgate fire hall (station 3)
